Help please I've fucked up somewhere along the line and I'm at a loss to where:confused:.
I've got a later 08 facelift model and have decided to keep for a couple more years yet .
so I decided I'd treat her to some black powder coated wheels of which I sourced from eBay for a good price but then I thought I'd put some discs on said front wheel so I could keep other set as ready to go spares .
Are u keeping up :thumb2
Wheels are from the earlier model,Armstrong wavy discs ,purchased some wavy washers and bobbins from bounce of this parish .
Now the problem ,I fitted the front wheel then went to spin it around and nada it wasn't budging on further examination it seems the discs are rubbing on the inside of the callipers ,like the discs need a washer between them and the hub or a washer in between the calliper and fork leg

A few pics of my dilemma

You can see where it's rubbing on the inside of calliper

This is how I bolted the discs straight onto hub

Fuck it :mad:I thought it was all going to well ,any ideas please

Firstly, I am no expert, and I have never actually changed the discs on a GS, so if what I am suggesting is rubbish, I apologize, but I always try to apply some logic. I went out to have a look at my GS (2010 twin cam). What I noticed, is that the ABS ring on mine mounts BETWEEN the disc and the wheel, to give a spacing of the sort that you may be missing. Is the problem you have only on the caliper shown in your photo, i.e. the side the ABS ring would normally sit if fitted, or both calipers? On the other side of my wheel there appears to be a spacing washer (which may or may not be the "wavy" itself - I don't know whether the wavy should go inside or outside the disc).

Cheers for taking the time to have a look at yours al ,on the far side ( on the picture )calliper it's tight but will spin around but on the calliper ( yes the side where abs should ring should be) nearest it's a no go really tight .

No probs. Sounds like you have to compensate for the lack of ABS ring, because it looks as if the ABS has been taken off on yours. Have fun. Al

I don't know the first thing about these discs, but shouldn't the bobbins be put in the disc from the wheel side?

That makes sense - to me at least - it gives you the spacing that you need.

There is a problem mixing calipers because of a different offset but i cant remember what it is and i dont want to give you duff info. I know that i put a set of early GS alloys onto my 13 plate GSA without a problem just swapped everything over.

I've just had a quick look ,maybe it's worth a try when I get home tomorrow
But where would the wavy washer go

I'd put the washer on the outside, they're to stop rattle.

Or maybe not, as the I.D. is the same as the bobbin.....

Sounds like a plan I'll try to get home early tomorrow night and give it a go ,I'll keep you posted.
Cheers lads:thumb2

I had exactly the same problem with Armstrong wavy discs, I ended up using washers as spacers between the wheel and the bobbins, but was not happy with that arrangement.

Where did the bobbins come from? From 08 on the calipers are slightly different, moved out by a few millimeters; bobbins from the earlier models do not work, they don't push the discs out far enough to line up with the relocated caliper centre lines.

The simple solution ought to be to get a set of bobbins for the later models. Unfortunately, the later models' bobbins are fixed to the discs as a complete assembly and not available separately.

Brembo sell a replacement disc, one that can be ordered with bobbins that are correct for the 2008 on machines. I would hazard a guess that those bobbins are available seperately from Brembo as a kit. I think the Brembo part number is 98.8247.20, but double-check that.

Gav - I've replied to your PM......you might require a set of disc thrust washers which fit between the wheel hub & disc.

Yep just read it, makes sense I'm gonna give motor works a call tomorrow thanks bounce for taking the time:thumb2

Had the same problem when using older wheels and discs on my 2008 and 2010 GSA.
The calliper mounting posts are 2mm shorter on bikes with the newer type discs, when you fit an older style wheel/disc combo the disc is not central in the calliper and can rub.
I made up a 2mm thick shim plate to fit between calliper and fork leg so the disc ran central.
Have upgrade the discs to the newer type on both sets of wheel now.

Great info kenny ,I had a quick look at mentioned thrust washers on google images and they look very thin and I don't think they'd Make a great deal of difference .
But what you did with the shim plates seems like it could be the answer ,I'll know more tomorrow after making a quick call.:thumb2

The man is correct... I simply use thick washers to space the calipers on customers bikes.

Yep seems to be the way forward spoke to a very nice man from motor works today and he offered me 3or 4 sets of spacer washers(of 0.5 mm) to put between disc and hub ,but I declined as I have a shit load of assorted washers already .
I'll maybe try a washer inside of each disc and maybe a spacer washer on the near side calliper as that's where my abs should of been.
It'll be the weekend before i get to tinker anymore ,cheers to everybody who's chimed in much appreciated :thumb2

What he said, I bought a pair of discs for an 2008 with fitted bobbins by mistake for my 06 and the calibers are in a different place.but I do like the wavy discs.
