if you want to learn about rust and parts falling off ......welcome to the bmw club
You're more right than you could have known.
'06 F800s 0 to 23k. Footpegs, head gasket, key sensor thingy. Engine casings, pistons+barrels, dealer damaged paintwork.
'04 1100s BCR bought at 6k crashed beyond economical repair at 23k. A £20 pair of stick coils, otherwise flawless.
'55 K1200s from 10k to 18k. RH switchgear, clutch basket, RH switchgear again, zfe unit, ABS unit (iirc), fuel level sensor, main wiring loom.
'04 1150gsa bought at 30k at the end of may, clutch collapsed suddenly and totally @ 39500 at the end of july. Oh, and the bull bars snapped.
I Love Approved Used. I only paid for the stick coils.
Looked at Triumph but didn't trust the warranty when the dealership was full of used bikes with flakey engines and rusty exhausts. Looked at KTM but lack of aftermarket, ridiculous luggage options on all but the Adventure put me off. With so many low mileage examples for sale I'm sure it can travel the world but worry you'll loose a pile of cash when you flog it.
The answer is two bikes, but until I have the space I'll stick with the lardy arse.
