Where would you put it though?:augie

Not on the engine! When working for a dealer I had a hot ear from some pedantic twat about how the placement of the tax disc holder on the cyl head protector bolt would cause a localised hot spot... seriously!!

And the drag... must be placed inline for less drag:D

BM riders eh!

I think your problem is just lack of bottle with the right hand :-)
If you take it to just before the red line in each gear you can get there no problem.
Now I am over 20St and on a little 1100.

1,take the cat off, even put a gs tank on (your arse will tell you to get off before the fuel range), take everything off that dont matter, it wont do a thing,,
2, sell bike and buy a faster one,
if you need top speed on a gs, youv probably got the wrong bike,
if you need fast, non of the twins will do, not even a 1200,gs,s are for touring around 80/100mph,
never understood the fixation with top speed, you go there around 000.1 % of the time,
torque and acceleration is where its at,
shoulda put panniers and a spare fuel can on the blue un

I can now see the red line.

And why the feck would you want to do that anyway ??????????

You`re riding it wrong if you`re revving the tits off it.

Despite what I've said it's not about the very top speed...just that I thought it should be able to get up there quicker.

So if you want a point and squirt quick hitter you should have bought a short stroke single cylinder bike or a short stroke quick revving vee twin.

My tendency is for roads where nsl's feel bloody quick.

Again....you`ve got the wrong bike if you want rapid throttle response on the sort of roads that fit your description.

Change your bike or riding style .... or just learn how to ride your GS properly and enjoy it as it should be.

Wouldn't be much good for trips down to then across the Alps two up with luggage though would it? Possible, but not ideal.

As for the red line, I don't know how else to say that it illustrated that the bike should be quicker. Going by the on-topic replies here, it should. Now it's lost some weight it does. Once it gets de-catted it hopefully will even more.

I'm up to 30k miles on Boxer twins (1100 and 1150) 10k of them on this one so I've at least some idea of how they run, and if the first one hadn't suited me completely I certainly wouldn't have bought a second one (I wouldn't have got rid of the first if the decision hadn't been taken out of my hands).

As for not knowing how to ride it there's clearly many who'll willingly give me tips should I ever feel the need :thumb2

...enjoy it as it should be.

That's all I'm looking for.

I reckon, like the other geezer recommended, that you need to put a different final drive ratio on it and enjoy the trip up to 160kph instead of trying to get over it.
The crack with these GS's is where you can take them (and get them stuck) not how quick you get there.:augie

road with lots and lots of bends, 30-70mph, on pegs if dry or a bit less if wet. Bumps also a good option... persecute a sports bike or two:augie

The bike is an '04 with 40k on the clock and goes pretty well up to 100.

I'm 14 stone 8 at 6'2'', I aim to lose the 8 since it's mostly beer but I'm hardly manatee proportions.

You're more right than you could have known.

'06 F800s 0 to 23k. Footpegs, head gasket, key sensor thingy. Engine casings, pistons+barrels, dealer damaged paintwork.

'04 1100s BCR bought at 6k crashed beyond economical repair at 23k. A £20 pair of stick coils, otherwise flawless.

'55 K1200s from 10k to 18k. RH switchgear, clutch basket, RH switchgear again, zfe unit, ABS unit (iirc), fuel level sensor, main wiring loom.

'04 1150gsa bought at 30k at the end of may, clutch collapsed suddenly and totally @ 39500 at the end of july. Oh, and the bull bars snapped.

I Love Approved Used. I only paid for the stick coils.

Looked at Triumph but didn't trust the warranty when the dealership was full of used bikes with flakey engines and rusty exhausts. Looked at KTM but lack of aftermarket, ridiculous luggage options on all but the Adventure put me off. With so many low mileage examples for sale I'm sure it can travel the world but worry you'll loose a pile of cash when you flog it.

The answer is two bikes, but until I have the space I'll stick with the lardy arse.

Decatting with Remus Y-Piece has made a world of difference, just as it does on the bcr.
:)

The full Stainetune on my BxrCup yes, a little bit more poke, on the GS, nah, just more noise & not really worth the effort expense, but few people who spend money on it will admit to that ! Been running mine with a Y for years and just put the cat back on, bugger all difference apart from noise and a little bit at the top end.
