In prep for crossing the Sahara later this year I'm trying to reduce the weight of my 1150GSA. Yes I know there are lighter bikes, but I'm going with what I've got...

So far I've:
- Removed the catalytic converter. Mainly for sub std fuel reasons, probably 5-10kg reduction
- Replaced std exhaust with Remus, probably 5kg reduction
- Removed the servo brake unit, 5-10kg reduction

Are there any other substantial weight reductions?

Thanks

The most efficient weight reduction.....

A diet!:hide

Why not replace all the standard plastic parts with lightweight carbon fibre? I happen to know somebody who's selling all items......

In all seriousness it would be really interesting to see what weight you get down to. Am I miles off or did the first 1150GSA's have plastic tanks?:nenau

Ok thanks, sounds like there is not much more to be reduced.

I’ve streamlined everything that I’m taking with already. From minimal camping gear, to only taking sockets and hex bits that are actually used on the bike.

With carbon-fibre there is a cost/weight ratio, not sure I’d go down that route.

Eat more salads, but avoid German beansprouts as the weight loss may be more drastic than desired:D

Come on, where's you imagination???

1) Beak
2) Windscreen
3) Rev counter
4) RID
5) Heated grips
6) Main beam
7) GSA crashbars
8) Main stand
9) Remus can - replace with stubby
10) Rear seat
11) Luggage (pacsafe + ortleib instead)
12) Rear wheel plastic mudguard thingy

Bet we could go further and it would still be up to the job

You'll get all the weight loss you need on a saharan diet of goat and camels. :D
