I'm looking for: a compressor for tyres that will run via the socket, and a compressor for pumping up airbeds, likewise.
I'm sure there must be such things

I`ve got one of these , just use the BMW to 12 volt converter lead or swap existing conector for BM one

Hard wire a Slime tyre inflator to your battery and the wire that comes with it is long enough to give yourself the reach needed to pump up an airbed.

why on earth go to the bother of hard wiring.. when you have a powersocket? would take only minutes to fit a DIN plug (£3 or less) to the wire.. job done
I have one of them and they are ok. Not sure if a more expensive model will blow tyre/whatever faster, but it does the job just fine (used half a dozen time so far)£9 from Wilkinsons (if you have a store near you):

Out of stock on the website but our local shop has them. Cut the car plug off and replace with one of the convertible car / bike ones (the ones with the removable red end). Job done for less than £10.
Compressors are either high pressure OR high volume.
Your tyre pump would take forever to pump up an airbed.
Thanks guys; I now own a Wilko's tyre compressor, a Halford's airbed compressor, a tubeless puncture repair kit, an airbed, and a 12v adaptor.
I also bought a Map of France, though I am doubtful if I can stuff it into the accessory socket..
