I have BMW heated grips on my GS. but the rubber is well worn
to the point that I dout they last this coming winter. can I just get away with replacing the grips or do I have to change every thing?

If you are really careful with a craft knife, you can cut the rubber part off the grip & buy a normal grip to replace it. You don't need to buy the entire part (ie: grip, tube & heating element with wiring). Cost of the new rubber piece should only be about £5 a side.

Thanks Paul I'll try that as there so worn i can see the elements beneath the rubber i've nothing to lose!!!
sorry Bob its 1150(or is that a Old one)

Yep. Just done it on mine, after being quoted £55 a side for the heated grips. Bought a pair of grips from the local bike shop for £5, peeled off the old and on with the new. Job's a good 'un.

Self amalgamating rubber tape available from good plumbers merchants makes an excelent permanent repair to rubber bar grips. Well it worked for me anyway. Bloody useful stuff for all sorts of other things too. Up there with WD40 for universal usefulness.
