Well I set off in the early morn tomorrow for Dalkeith, booked this appointment (being the earliest available) in mid march.
Weather forecast tomoz , 2degrees in the morning max temp 7degrees , however "feeling like -3degrees" .
feckin hacked off, on the bright side warranty up in august so will be the first and last one of these trips.

Yes then you get a wee letter from BMW offering you an extended warranty which you know you cant refuse due to the fact the GS is a bit lacking when it comes to reliability ( I know I've had two) so that will be at least £350. You've just had your trousers removed at Dalkieth to the sum of £300 but thats okay the coffee was nice
and your next service in order to keep your new warranty valid will probably be £380 due to it being 12000 miler..... German payback time... I'm glad I went over to the Orange side..

I was in Dalkeith a few weeks back picking bits up and was told they are looking for somewhere more central.

They're needing to make it more central. Centre of Edinburgh that is. That dalkeith place takes about 10 minutes to get to, they could really do with being a tad nearer.

Takes me 14 hours on the boat and 2 .30 hrs riding to get there, worth every penny.

Central Edinburgh!!!!!!! Oh please no. The councillors of Edinburgh hate anything that is not a tram or a pedal cycle and would almost certainly dig up the road at the entrance to any bike workshop within hours of it opening. Even the motorways into Edinburgh from the west or north have long term roadworks speed limits on them.
Perth would suit me but is probably a bit too close to Clarks in Dundee to be acceptable. Stirling would be ideally placed to suit customers from Glasgow or Edinburgh, the rental of any premises would likely be comparable with Dalkeith. And more importantly it is not Edinburgh!!!

Stirling would be a good place. Its drawback is staff travelling distance.
Just stay in Dalkeith in bigger premises . I like staying overnight in the County Hotel when I am down for a service.

Next door to the Edinburgh Harley-Davidson dealership would have been ideal - I think. It's opposite Kings Buildings on the south side.

Taking the bike for service is usually an early morning effort when time is of the essence. I have to cross the Forth either at Stirling, Kincardine or Queensferry so motorway is the quickest option. Sometimes the trip home is a bit more relaxed and I can take the scenic route but even the motorway looks more inviting when you are going away from Edinburgh rather than towards it. In fact the best bit of road around Edinburgh is any road that leads out of it.
Make your mind up - is this about convenience or your daft anti-Edinburgh prejudice?
If it's about convenience, take the bike in just before the end of business the day before and get a loan bike.
If it's about your daft prejudice - get over it.
