Just a few pics from a brief trip to beautiful West Cornwall last week.

We briefly stopped at Stonehenge… only a few days till the summer solstice.

I knew some people in Hayle so we used this as our base and booked into a local B&B.

BB.jpg

Their local was 'The Bucket of Blood' the HSD wet down rather nicely and it made a change to hear tales about smugglers and ‘Cousin Jack.’

Certain pubs on the Essex coast are normally full of pseudo salty sea dogs singing sea shanties most friday nights...:crossbone :mmmm

Interesting wooden woman on Hayle harbour (insert gag about giving me wood... :nenau)

Next morning we went to St Michael's mount near Penzance.

Next stop was the Minack Threatre. The Minack Theatre is an open-air theatre, constructed above a gully with a rocky granite outcrop jutting into the sea (minack in Cornish means a stony or rocky place).

Although we couldn't look round (due to it being showtime) the surrounding flower garden and views were stunning.

It being the right time of year and with the sun shining, we decided to stay out late. :thumb2

The little village of Mousehole or as the locals call it 'Mowzel' was our next stop.

Legend has it that the harbour entrance is so small the fishermen called it ‘the Mousehole’. The locals grew fond of this name and renamed their village.

Having read the story of Mowzer the Mousehole cat Julie went in search of the moggy, but only found this...

So we gave up the search grabbed a Cornish ice cream (topped with clotted cream) and sat down next to some old girl who was sleeping on a bench in the sunshine.

After half an hour and fearing she’d had a stroke (or was getting sun stroke) I decided to try and wake her up. It was nearly ‘painful stimuli’ but luckily she stirred before I could leap into action.

Later I realised that she had a pint of guinness as a substitute for her right leg. :nenau

By Day 2 I had metamorphosed into a Cousin Jack. :eek

Julie didn't appear to care :D

By the time we got to St Mawes I was getting low on fuel. The shell tanker drivers were still out on strike so no fuel here ;)

(since about 1953)

We consoled ourselves with two of these.

Mullion Cove.

By the time we reached Porthleven it was getting cloudy with gale force winds (well it seemed like it...:P)

So it was back to the B&B to freshen up.

Next it was back to the 'bucket' for more 'greetings' from the stout yeoman of yonder bar.

Next time will hopefully have longer and be able to explore more of this fantastic place.

:)

Stunning pictures, very deep polarizer !
What camera etc ?

Great write up too.

Alan

Thanks Alan.

The pics are nearly as good as yours. :)

Camera as a Nikon D40. I have a UV filter and (jessops) polariser. Still playing around with with the polariser. Bit hit and miss sometimes.

Nice pics Tricky, it looks like you had a good time. Thank's for sharing :thumb2

Great pics and write up, but..............what the hell is that on the plate next to the pasty?????

Salad with a pasty is just wrong:D

Hm, I was hoping you were going to say a Canon!!

The 400d was my first choice but (at the time of buying) was £100 more than the D40. :)

Cracking pics there Tricky. Cornwall looks like an interesting place to visit. Thanks for posting. :thumb2
