Wet Crotch

Yea, yea….. been there….. dropped a nasty one ( huge fart) whilst diving in a dry suit having ascended from 25 metres. Used to play havoc with my guts that diving lark….
Curry the night before and the poor bastard that I asked to open my shoulder zip after the dive almost threw up…
That's why you use hire wet suits; :D :poop:

You've done well there with leather keks: (y)
If Carlsberg made leather keks ... :D

Actually, tell a lie: coming down from Perth earlier this year, they let in water during one of the early alphabet storms. When I got home, I realised I'd not zipped up the fly or tucked in the lining after having a Lilian! Otherwise, bone dry in all weathers if starting to look a bit travel worn on the outside!

Is that you or the keks? :D

I wear 20 year old BMW’s Streetguard 1 XCR Goretex trousers and zip them to my Streetguard 4 jacket and never ever been wet, whatsoever….even in 8 hours of biblical German rain

Come to think about it, my BMW’s Atlantis nubuck leather trousers have ever leaked and I have never fitted the optional Goretex inner liner

Just order a Klim Carlsbad GTX jacket so hope that works as well

Just back from South Africa where we had two days of torrential rain. The Klim wearing Aussies got damp, the Rukka wearing Yank was slightly better off. I had a pair of armoured denim jeans covered by a pair of cheap walking over pants. Dry as a bone all day. Odd init.

I've often found where drop liners are concerned that even zipping the jacket to the trousers, often the jacket drop liners are tailored short so when the jacket wets out (had this on my RST gear), water migrates down the inside of the trousers after soaking through the lower part of the jacket. Luckily, my Rukka Pathfinder liner is long enough not to have this problem and whilst I haven't had it for long, I've still stayed bone dry when coupled with halvarssons trousers. I think that well considered design, rather than cost, is a better guarantee of staying dry.

I wear Klim Carlsbad and stay dry.
I have had this problem with other gear.

A cheap option is the Scotts or Oxford overpants, they keep you dry too

No matter how good your textiles, in heavy rain an outer shell is beneficial. If nothing else, the water just shakes off them and the muck wipes off easily.

The only issue i have with Oxfords rainseal overpants is the elasticated ankles.
They have a habit of riding up and pinging off your boots onto your legs, then the rain runs into your boot.

I use Klim now but if buying again I would avoid elasticated ankles.

Strange but something weird popped into my mind, late last night, as I was trying to nod off to sleep.

How about the same type of covering that is used for Kayakers and Canoeists, a spray deck cover seen below, modified to fit over legs as you get into it, then pulled up to waist and then over your bike seat? :idea

Basically a 3 holed device capable of keeping rain from getting to your nether regions.

Check your seams and glue/seal with some McNett SeamGrip if they leak, or re-tape with seam tape and some Seam Grip.

Have you got a heated seat?
Heated seats mess up gortex. Same as heated grips. I’ve had a Rukka Navigator suit for 10 years, been 100% waterproof and used all year around. The one time my undies felt damp was when I had the heated seat on. The chap in the cap explained on one of his videos about how heat caused water to push through the gortex. Never happened since

From what I understand Gortex allows moisture to travel through it from hot to cold, normally to allow moisture to escape from the inside to outside of the suit. Heated seats and grips turn this on it's head as they're hotter than the body, so the moisture then travels in the opposite direction and you van then end up with a wet arse/hands

correct

to pass through the Goretex membrane (or other similar product) the water needs to be in vapour form to generate the diffusion across the membrane. Normally the vapour is only produced from body heat but when there is more heat on the outside, the diffusion of the vapour is reversed. The vapour then condenses in your pants or glove liner.

the practical solution to using heated grips and seat in wet weather is to invest in the classics of bar muffs and a gaucho. This is what I used when I commuted 33 miles each way to Cardiff from Abergavenny. I still use the bar muffs in winter but it is a long time since I got the gaucho out.
