Flying to Germany in few weeks to pick up bike.
Trying to decide between the following
Early 2004 (03/04) 12GS with Full Luggage 10,800yoyo (7400quid)
OR
Mid 2005 (05/05) 12GS , No luggage

Both about 5000miles, ABS etc.

The main issue is reliability. If I get the early 2004 is there anything to worry about (that would have not already shown up in 5000miles)?

The 2005 will have the balance of the warranty but I'm an optimist so will only really consider this if there is a genuine risk of any gremlins showing thier head on the early bike.

So, Early 2004 Bike... What should I look out for (other than one deceased owner due to brake failure)?

Luggage cost say Euro700?
Difference in value between 03/04 and 05/05 bike, same miles, surely more than cost of luggage?
So buying the newer bike and adding the luggage gives you more value than buying the lder bike with the luggage.
YMMV!

Got to agree with BR on this one, in the long term the "value" of the 2005 bike will be ahead of the 2004 wwith the luggage. :thumb

My final drive (07/04 bike) didn't fail until 20,000 miles :nenau

I'd take the newer bike.

Cheers.
I thought the luggage was worth more than 1000Euro, so that was swaying me (plus the additional 300Euro Vehicle Regiatration Tax for the 2005).
I was seeing it as about 1300Euro Saving.

Anyone know how much I should pay for a luggage in Deutschland?

Go for the newer bike, it'll stand to you when you go to sell / trade :D but make sure its a yellow one :bounce1

Personally, I'd talk to Civil about luggage as I reckon the BM stuff is too flimsy ;) Having given the Caja Sahels a sound thrashing I reckon they're the dogs :bow

Ye newer bike with least millage. You might be lucky and pick up some cheap(er) luggage on the site. Which ever you get enjoy :thumb

HI,
Im just in the process of getting a GS1200, but i am faced with a choice at the moment, just wondering what other peoples opinions are?
Well here goes, 04 ABS, alarm, grips and 4700 miles, 12 months dealer warrenty for £9000 or an 05 NON ABS, grips 11400 miles for £8500.
My feeling is that the 04 is the one, anyones opinion would be welcome.
many thanks
Jim

hi jim,
i think if i was you iwould be looking to purchase a new one, the prices on the used seem high to me, I bought new in sept 05 abs + heated grips for 9700
Brian

sounds high to me - I've got a 05/04 with ABS, h grips, full luggage (side/top), 15,000 in v. good nick and I'm considering pricing it around the £7,750 mark. It's had the rear wheel bearing done at 9,000 which can be a prob on the 04 models. Or check the www.mobile.de site for fair German prices.
