Phone him again, tell him that you are so completely feed up with the Nanny State that you are moving lock stock and barrel to your Spanish residence, shaking off the dust of the UK. Ask him if you can buy the bike for cash, for export to Spain.

nice one lol

Why not get the shop to register it to themselves as a demo model. Then technically speaking its second hand and should come with the registration documents?

i have suggested that but yes there is a but they are concerned that i wont then re register it what next !!!!!!

First time for everything

This is the first time that i have ever heard of this type of shinanigins ,
Sounds as if theres some wee in house political thingie goin on there.
The Courts in the South recently Jailed or threatened to jail a ford dealer
for price fixing.
Not sure bout the price fixing , but most certaintly seems to
smell of Discrimination !
I would ask to have the details confirmed by fax , and take it from there.

If you mean to register a new vehicle at a main DVLNI office it can be done on the spot as long as you have all the documents.

Do you not have to wait a few weeks for the V55??

Sounds like a load of tosh to me. A few friends have bought new english reg Jap bikes from the big bike chains. They registered them to the dealership. One even drove the bike up in the back of a van to Stranrear for the chap to go over as a foot passenger and pick it up. Personally I'd tell them to shove the bike up their h*le. :D :D

I would support the view of telling them were to stick the bike. Once again it seems that BMW don't really have their customers best interest at heart.

ps I thought you were for keeping the 12. Heart ruling the head Paul

:spitfire FFS!
this is ignorance beyond belief and just insulting!
a primary school child could show them a political map and point out where the feckin border is!

sheesh!

I think civil is right on this one. Get it in writing.

Yup.....what they're trying to do is illegal.

Tell them that you've been in touch with Trading STandards and a solicitor and you'd like them to confirm in writing why they won't sell you this bike......ask the person you speak to for their name and keep calm and uber-polite.....that might well shift'em :thumb

If it is the case, what fanum says. It is blatant discrimination. All this about an English address, is utter, utter nonsense. All the dealer has to do, with a few days notice, is a phone call and a fax to DVLNI. A NI reg can be issued on the spot. The, bike has never been issued with a plate before, so at the minute it is just goods for sale. No permanent export notice is required by Swansea(as they like to call it, when re-reg in NI), because as far as they are concerned the machine does not exist. Customs and Vat are the same UK office, so no excuses there. The dealer is discriminating, and so are BMW, but I doubt they even know about this. A quick call to BMW customer services, with regards to the dealer, quoting all the laws that apply, ie Euro regs, Trading standards, Discrimination laws. Copies to Solcitor of all correspondance, but you know that don't you......After all we can all go straight to Germany and buy any BMW we want after all. What a loud of total Bollocks, even if you had a Dublin address, they couldn't stop you, we all live under the same European law......But it depends how much you want it, doesn,t it... ;). And if what he says is supposed to be right then why are all the Brits buyin up NI plates, and driving around on them if they are bloody foreign? You'll find more than you're fare share of foreign plates registered at Swansea then, explain that if you care....Bloody Foreigners :D

im swaying m8

quick up date still no success but i am awaiting a return call from BMW customer services will let you know

all the stuff about discrimination etc is all well and good but i think you will find that no-one, including dealers, is actually legally obliged to sell anybody anything.

but i agree with the sentiment that bmw dealers dont give a fukc about customers.

i wouldnt bother with them at all if anyone else could supply a bike like the gs.

but good luck to you paul.hope you get the bike you want if only to spare the guy in fronts eyesight :D

When I bought my bike it was still registered in England. I had to fill out a "notice of permanent export" It's because of the DVLA Swansea and the DVLA(NI)Coleraine.

Why can you not give the dealer a deposit and get them to register the bike to themselves and then when you get the bike home, complete the rest of the paperwork. Simple :eek

@ kyle cheers m8 LOL about the lights (but i might fit them to new bike!!!!) @ blobbs they wont do that @ oatsy latest is im waiting on a return call from BMW customer services thanks to all for your replies i will keep you informed

The V55 documentation is supplied with the new vehicle from my experience.

When I changed the car I wanted to register it with a personal plate and got it from the dealer when the car arrived, I did the registration myself completing the papaerwork and sending it off.

When I bought the previous bike to the GS, again I wanted to transfer a number to it and the supplying dealer let me have the V55 to transfer the number.

When it came to the GS again I wanted to keep the number but Hurst's policy was that they had to register it so I collected it with their allocated number and then had to send the documents up to Coleraine, took about 5 weeks to do and far more complicated than using the V55, in fact when I called DVLNI they said it would have been far simpler and cheaper to transfer the number on to the new bike.

latest update BMW customer service have FAILED to return my call (so much for customer service) the dealer who has refused to sell it is Woolaston BMW Northhampton so the deal is DEAD in the water I have now however nearly done a deal with SBW BMW in Sawbridge who are willing to register the bike in their name for me to collect and have been very helpful but i just cant understand all this hassle (is it worth it) I do feel let down by BMW customer service which was non existent to be honest.

Now I need to try to arrange to get the bike if I can and get it back here (anyone know a transport company?)
