what make/type of stove for camping

Just lit up my new Coleman Sportster, & it's very windy here at the mo'.

It's burning with a yellow flame, almost could be said that it's flaring a bit. Is this down to the wind? being new? Or just crap?

It does that until the metal at the top heats up. It will also puff occasionally "whoomp" from crap in the fuel.

Pump it up a bit more :thumb

Thanks again:thumb

I assume ( as I have done) that when finished cooking, OK playing:o the pressure should be released?

Never needed to release pressure when finished using stove and no dire side effects to date-just make sure that you clean as per instructions using the tap after use.

Just a couple of afterthoughts..............
I usually transport stove in its case so little risk of accidentally opening valve in transit.

By using tap to clean, I mean the rotating the red on/off tap backwards and forwards a few times when switched off to clear jet as opposed to washing stove in the sink!!

Got a Coleman dual fuel and the base has started to leak, paint on base has bubbled and tiny holes have appeared letting fuel leak out when under pressure, mind you it is 15 years old and has performed faultlessly, time to retire the old girl I think:(

just bought the MSR dragonfly (about half price from the states try rei.com) and its great, also packs down to nothing and weighs virtually nothing.

I've got an MSR multi-fuel and a Coleman petrol one.

You have to use Coleman fuel or unleaded (siphon yer tank :thumb2 ) - you would only consider kerosene in an emergency cos it stinks.

Al :D

Hi,

I'm a UKGSER newb but I've plenty of experience cooking on the road around the world...

+1 for the coleman 442. It's light, will last you a lifetime, and you can burn just about anything in it, no matter where you are. Won't guarantee you can whip up anything edible mind you :D
