I got my tool and filter from Steptoe.. top servicce, they were cheaper than buying a filter from my local garage on its own....

Hi Rocks,

Thanks for the recommendation.

Could you let me know what make the filters are ?

Thanks !

Why are you now apparently losing sleep and biting your nails over what fecking BRAND of filter someone is selling ???

You started off enquiring about what part number is correct, when anyone with even a modicum of common sense would merely go to their preferred vendor of accessories (whether franchised or not) and request an oil filter for an R1100GS.......now you`ve spent longer worrying about the BRAND than a filter change (of any brand) would have taken to do.

Unless you`re one of those chinless wonders who HAVE to have a BMW part in a BMW badged plastic bag costing twice as much as a non badged one made in the same factory, just order one from a place of your choice and fit it.

Erm, very nicely put Tarka.

Clearly I'm not looking at genuine BMW parts or I wouldn't have listed these:

Bosch 3330
Fram PH3614
AC Delco PF-53
Motorcraft FL-271, FL-793
Purolater FCO-201, PER-241

Thanks for your advice, but I don't see why if a particular oil filter is recommended, that I shouldn't know what make it is while considering the purchase ?

Would you (for example) buy an unbranded oil filter from me (for example) ?

Wouldn't you at least like to have some basic information about what you were buying ?

FYI - Most of these filters AC Delco PF-53, Motorcraft FL-271, FL-793, Bosch 3330, Fram PH3614 are available for about £2 - £3.

Obviously, I would like to be sure of compatibility before making a purchase whether it is from a motorfactors or from someone retailing through a forum.

Again, thank you for your advice.

:)

Steptoe,

What make are the oilfilters that you supply ?

Or is this some kind of secret ??

How can it be a secret if i sell them to people :D

Just buy the bmw filters and you'll die a happy man - like i will when you stop asking questions that are all in the fecking handbook

Ta Steppy,

I've got a haynes manual and the genuine BMW manual, but I haven't got the 'fecking handbook' is this more like a clymer ?

Where do I get one ?

Thanks.

Details..

As it was requested.. the filter supplied by Steptoe was a
"Mann Filter".. MW712 hope that helps.

:D He's giving as good as he gets to you tossers. :D

Tarka: Pot kettle black moment there with you of all people accusing someone of getting obsessional about things. :ymca

gsguy: Just order up a nice cheap filter the The Steptoe, I know he looks dodgy, acts dodgy, smells dodgy, and for sure if you're a morrocan teenager with a liking for tictacs, is dodgy - but his stuff is good.

He does other stuff as well, which comes highly recommended by about a thousand people on here. But dont go near his stainless fixing kits, he takes your money then fecks about "losing" your details.

PS

I dont know what make they are, but they fit and they filter oil, that just about covers the performance parameters I expect from an oil filter :thumb

I doubt it - you've just given him more choice to ponder over, more questions to ask :D and another person to add to my ignore list :thumb

They also have an inbuilt pressure by-pass valve, which a lot of the cheaper filters don't have :thumb

They fit... they filter oil... and I've been using them for the last 40,000 miles on my GS 11, and the last 20,000 miles on Lucys GS 11.

Is that good enough?

Have you got a part number for the inbuilt pressure by-pass valve, and will it fit the air filter on my DR650?

Can you advise me as to what make the inbuilt pressure by-pass valve is please ?

its basically a spring and plate that opens up inside the filter - if you forget to change the oil after about 20000 miles and the filter element clogs.

it just recirculates the oil instead of filtering it.

oh god - something more for people to worry about.........

gs guy I was totaly confused by your insistance on knowing what make steptoes oil filters are, then I noticed where you are from.

Why is it all the weird people on this site come from down your way, is it something to do with the Apples?
