Bike is two and a half years old and the FD looks like this. BMW isn't interested.

Question is - what to do about it. I could just leave it but what would anyone recommend, short of stripping and repainting the whole thing!

If you leave it, it'll just get worse as the blistered paint will retain water. The corrosion is under the paint so the only option is to cut back the paint with wet and dry until you've exposed sound paint (and sound alloy), then prime and re-paint. If you can do that on the bike you are in luck, if not the FD will come off really quite easily so you can do a more thorough job.

has anyone tried powder coating the final drive? I always thought they'd look pretty cool powder coated black and will probably wear better.
