I need to dub a couple of DVDs onto copy discs that I can use day-to-day in my laptop and office DVD player, whilst keeping the originals safe from damage.

I've already decided that I want an external DVD recorder, but I'm comletely baffled by which type I need, and which type will copy commercial DVDs. I suspect that I need a DVD writer as opposed to recorder, per se.

Any suggestions? And where is the least expensive place to acquire such items? I'm assuming that PCWorld will try to rip me off.

i would have thought any external dvd writer will work, but if it's commercial discs you are copying, you will likely need some decryption software Any dvd and a robust disregard of copywright law ;)

Another tip is Most new DVD's are just over the 4.7 GB's so as to make it a BUGGER to copy them:(
Use DVD shrink.

If you can't get it I can do you a copy on a floppy :thumb

I've also got "DVD region killer V2.7" it just sits there automatically region clearing every DVD I put in the pooter,{ saves you having to change your region codes on your player, some have a limit of 5  } I'd forgot it was there !!

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not wanting to dub films but instructional videos.

There are bit I like to use when I'm doing my IAM/RoSPA 'observing/training' to illustrate points. I've blagged one of the really nice Sony laptops with the small screen. But, as sure as eggs is eggs, I know that'd end up getting the DVDs scratched in transit no matter how securely I'd put them in their little boxes.

There seems to be something about a topbox that just helps things get rubbished. The laptop comes ina very nice ruggedised body, though.

That DVD Region killer sounds like what I need!

However I have just found this link on a site that killed the drive. Not sure if it was caused by the software installation though.

Anyone else used the program without any problems?

Are these German adult training movies ? :D

No.

One guy is Welsh, mind.

As for adult ...... regrettably it's all but impossible to get hold of teenage riders to teach them advanced riding skills. That might be why so many crash. So most people who undertake the training are very adult - in years if nothing else.

No problems whatsover, I don't even bother looking at the region of the DVD now, I just play them :)
