Just bought a new to me 03 1150GS , i owner and not used for the past 5 years. Tyres are old Metzler Tourance.
Please advise what is the current best choice for on road touring.

Regards
Dave

I still use Tourance. I don't go off road and they wear well and grip well wet or dry. They white-line a bit, but every tyre I have tried in 32 years biking has done it at least as much. I run 36/42 as I often run with full panniers and top box.

If you're only using the bike on road, I can highly recommend Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail.

But I've recently taken a punt with a set of Conti Tail Attack 2s. Very reassuring grip. I'm impressed with them. So I'd definitely recommend them too

But in the end, most modern tyres are going to be good. They all just have subtlety different characteristics and feel, which I guess is why people have a preference.

Tourances are good. Can't say I've noticed any issues when white lining, wet or dry upright or cornering. Trying my first set of Conti trail attacks. 1500 miles done and everything is good.

The origional tourace was my prefrence up to getting an Lc gs,
So tried pr4, now on avon trailriders,
Found they do tourace in lc sizes now so going back to them , they are well priced,

i was fine with the original metz tourance on my 1150 - then went to metz exp's - better in wet and still getting 8000 m out of the rear , metz next - mates have them on their 1200's and hate them after 1/2 worn, Th Avon trailriders are getting great reviews so going to try them next.
Riding style is mostly commuting ayr, fun squirts regularily and touring each summer - not a 'fast' rider but can when i want and especially when on tour in mountains :D

Avon Trailriders. Brilliant tyre. Warm up before you even start moving (well you know what I mean), rock solid planted feeling wet or dry (ive been doing some of my corners as fast in the wet as in the dry) Made in England to. Love em. No need for any other tyre - unless you are going off road beyond hardpack/easy trails that is.....

Rode around 55k on original Tourances usually got 5-7k out of a rear and 10k out of a front. Switched to pr4 trails. 4K out of a rear and they throw stones at the swing arm but amazing wet grip! :)

Tourance, the original ones, over 250,000 miles on them on GSs and they are fine. I get between 12,500 and 15,000 out of a set, riding loaded most of the time. I use the bike to cart my photo gear about, or at least I did, I have spent this summer repairing broken bones.....
but have had a couple of rides on my little bike to replace the biggun.
