This is not a rant just a survey. I bought a used final drive from a known breakers of BMW bikes in the UK and paid for it to be shipped to Hungary. When it arrived I was less than chuffed with the condition of said drive, the backlash was excessive, the pinion shaft has lateral play which is not desirable so the whole FD would have to have new bearings and be shimmed to within an inch of its life at extra cost. That is to say nothing of the silver spray paint finish. Now I worked at a breakers in the UK a while back and I know what goes on but I think that takes the biscuit. Should I return this Final Drive at my own expense or should I get it rebuilt and use it ? Do I have any legal rights with used parts or not :blast?

I would have thought that parts supplied as good "used" ought to be fit for removal from packaging and fitting to the bike and riding into the sunset, cosmetics aside, if you had bought a final drive suitable for reconditioning that would be another issue entirely.

Reject it ...

... and ask the supplier to cover the cost of returning said piece of junk

A recent experience regarding a poorly reconditioned starter motor with Motorworks was quickly and painlessly resolved in a simple phonecall :thumb

back it and they cover the costs and send you one in the correct condition, best have a wee chat with them on the blower to see if the issue can politely be resoved:thumb2

If it's one of "the usuals" then they are pretty understanding. Shame they sent you a shite bit in the 1st place though! I bought my 1st GS from one of "the usuals" (not north!), and it turned out to be a complete piece o shite and they were not "up front" about what they knew or how they delt with me. Needless to say they are off my buying radar now and nealy put me of GS's for good... the twats!

It wasn't Motorworks and I don't want to name and shame. I haven't spoken to the supplier yet, thats why I just wanted a bit of advice. You know "ask your mates in the pub kind of thing".
Name and shame is your duty. I don't think its fair to expect advice from a group, but then leave them exposed to getting dodgey parts from the same supplier.

I say name them and keep us posted as to how, or if, it gets resolved.

Just the facts - who could lose?

I will keep you updated sure but I must give them the chance to atone themselves.

So why didn't you do that first..before starting this thread? :nenau

If it's a genuine mistake/matter of opinon, then if they are reasonable suppliers it will be sorted out. If it's not, then take it further at that point.

...unleash the UKGSER Kangaroo Court.....:D

Ok the good news is that they have said return it to the UK and I will get a refund.
The only reason I chose a respectable outfit in the first place was to avoid this situation, on Ebay for example. I am a little sad they didn't deliver quality in the first place.
My bad obviously.

Shafted

Sounds to me that you were mugged, they sent you a piece of crap knowing you were a long way off and possibly woundnt bother moaning just fix and fit imho, you should name them here,so we dont get shafted:augie Ok so they are taking it back, but that wouldnt be much help if you'd been waiting weeks to get your bike back up and running............

I agree it does feel like they took the opportunity to dump some scrap over the side. The man was quite acidic when I called him to talk about the order in the first place. You know the type who is in business, but doesn't need customers. If when I return the goods and he complains about them not being defective etc Then I will name them. Until then.....

Right this thing will cost me close to 75 pounds to ship back to this rsole who calls himself an independant BMW specialist which is twice what it cost him to send it here. Go figure. I am now righteously fuming and ready to go, I reckon in less than 48 hrs I will name at this rate. One last hope is that he will arrange a collection from the UK which should be cheaper. Any specialist worth his salt should know that axial and lateral play in a pinion shaft causes unacceptable wear on the differential gearset which is uncorrectable even by accurate shimming after a very short time of use. Not to mention the 300 pounds it would cost to make it serviceable, but for how long?

Hope

Hope you get some resolution on this buddy, they must be some major Rsoles, and it might be worth pointing out to them that there is a big audience who are interested in the outcome of this, and if you name these twats they might not have to worry about customers bothering them on the phone, cause they wont have any..........

+1 Another vote for naming and shaming here, it sounds like they have taken the piss mightily, I would cetainly like to avoid doing business with anyone who is like that, there seem to be enough decent people in the business, I usually use Motorworks or rely on the kindness of fellow Tossers for my parts requirements.
