I've got the big BMW one with the little detachable bag ...

On holiday? Light stuff only really ...

Main bag: waterproof trousers, camera, mobile 'phone, small Maglite torch, V5, insurance documents, travel insurance, travel tickets, hotel reservation info, small notebook and pen, wallet, passport, driving licence, paper currency, small bottle of drinking water, ibuprofen, sun cream, hat;

Little detachable bag: key fob/keys, chewing gum, earplug case, currency for tolls, toll tickets, (because it's detachable it's easier to get things - money mainly - in and out of while sitting on the bike, I find);

And a map in the map pocket of course ...

Other times? Biggest single item was my Timberland Benton snorkel ... 'cos my top box was full of other stuff, and I didn't want to put the panniers on since I was riding through London that day ...

Only ever used a tank-bag twice....

.....once on a GPZ600R (:rob) which was a two-tier jobbie that you could get the kitchen sink in!!....but struggled to see over it!...let alone the clocks!! :augie

.....the other on a trip on a Pan European..and it was such a pain in the arse I concidered posting it home a few days after leaving!!

Not used one since!

I know they keep the weight forward...keep things to hand...extra storage etc....

...but to me the security aspect of worrying if things will be there when you get back if you leave it on the bike..

...or having to lug it around with you if you don't!..

...and having this heavy bulky thing that just seems to always be in the way..

...it just makes a tank bag something I would rather do without! :augie

...I take the view....do I REALLY need all that stuff in it??...probably not! :nenau

All I've ever concidered since is a tank fixed map pocket :augie

A tank bag is really just a handbag which you can stow safely whilst riding:augie:augie

I've got in mine -
disk lock
sweeties
hairbrush
lip salve
perfume
lipstick
tissues
loads of small change floating around
mobile phone
spare pair of shoes
ciggies and lighter
and any other rubbish I never use and can't find:roll

Visor wipe sponge
Visor wipe drying cloth
Mints
Emergency blood sugar replenishment unit (OK Snickers bar)
Map, waterproof
MP3 player
Seal Skinz
Waterproof bag cover (because BUMW didn't specify a waterproof tank bag:blast)
Pen
Paper
Hand Wipes
Cable ties
Rubber Bands
String

A right boy scout me:)

That's great that!:thumb.....next time the girlfriend finds old wrappers in the van, and gives me that 'look' ....I'll just say they're medical supplies!! :augie

....come on Annette!......my girlfriend can get twice as much as that in her purse!!! :blast

.....you must be able to fit tons more in than that!! :augie

...you must try harder!....I was amazed what she thought was going to fit in her pannier bag last year when I took her to Switzerland?!?!? :blast

....God knows what she'd try cramming in if I gave her a tank bag and said 'there you go, fill that up!' :augie

Got one of the small sw motech ones (with a cigerette lighter socket in) which makes it easy to carry around and means I don't fill it with unnecessary junk, normally carry-

Which tank bag are you using?

Being a sad bugger I had to go and look...

The Oxford magnetic bag in the garage has:

a Capita SIMS ballpoint pen
a half consumed roll of Boots indigestion pills
a single small and unused elastoplast

The Touratech bag in my cupboard has nothing in it apart from the little purse thingy that fit on the back when in motion, and that had a single 10 euro cent coin. I'm rich!

nothing i emptied it the other weekend:thumb2
usualy camera, ipod, chargers, multitool, disc lock, pens, accident kit, lighter, cigars, firstaid kit, polos and a head torch
