Whats the tyre Brand of choice?

I would

I cant see the mix of tourance front and PR4 rear being terribly good TBH

I regularly mix tyre brands with no problems. My last "pair" was a half worn Tourance on front with a Maxis SuperMax road tyre on back. The handling was great almost to the end and very little squaring off.

Fair do's although I wouldnt do it myself !

It was originally a cost thing but it's made so little (if any) difference in handling that I simply carried on regardless.

Im sure most of the "advice" is about selling more tyres, but when my rear TKC-70 wears out I will be fitting another -70. An aggressive front tread obviously needs an equivalent partner to be worth the side effects.

If the front was Tourance type, I'd just fit another equivalent to the back.

I ran a Tourance on the front and a PR4 Trail on the rear for 3.5K miles no issues. The PR4 was good but it was starting to square off after this mileage, Scottish A-B roads and no motorways no hanging around really. I dont think they last as well as everyone thinks they will, i had PR-3's on a CBF1000 last time and got 8K out of the rear on this. However i believe that the Trail is a softer center compound compared to the PR3 i would have had on the Honda.

Each to their own, i would have fitted Tourance again but reading all the negative feedback on them has made me opt for PR4's again, I wont change the pair keep the front until it needs changing no point ditching a perfectly good tyre! I dont think many of us will ever ride to the tyres limits.

Just my thoughts...

Mitas E08 look like they might be worth a punt, similar thread pattern to the original Tourance and seem to be very well spoken of (with one well reported exception)

hi, my bike came with conti trail attack 2 on it, got it to 13.5k, back was down to the wire,my scotts thrifty ness shows, great wet/dry, so went for them again, my local guy, (Stevie Brierton, Motorcycles, bridgeton Glasgow) great guy, great service, £180, s/f, i have used his services for 5 years, im at 18k now, just showing a little ware, great tyres IMO, CHEERS.

I have put a few thousand kms on a set of Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 and I cannot fault them, even compared to the much favoured Michelin PR4 trail.

Was 100 % Continental Trail Attack .......... Fitted PR 4 Trails at the weekend. Done 150 miles on Sunday. Absolutely the best tyre I have ever ridden on. :thumb2:thumb2.

Hope they last! Keep us all posted.

A dark horse is the new Bridgestone A40s. I was a big fan of the Pilot road 3s on my Varadero. Tourances, I never got on with. These A40s, after 2k of riding the hoop out of my Vstrom 1000, have no signs of wear and stick like Sh1t to a Blanket in the wet or dry!!

Well worth a try.... even if they seem a 'budget option' !!

PR4 now fitted to the front so I have a matching pair. I got 7000miles from my previous Tourance tyres, so interested in seeing if these are any different.
