wheel cleaning

This is a strange one to ask, Ive cleaned my bike in readiness for the spring and the wheels have baked on crud that wont shift. Ive got spoked wheels and wondered what might remove whatever is on there. It looks like tar spots but theres lots of it and its mated to the wheel and aint for shifting. Cleaned the wheels with muckoff and that was a waste of time, then left acf50 on them overnight and all that did was shine up the crud. Im wary about what I can put on the wheels, is wonder wheels applied liberally a safe option or not? Any/all suggestions welcome.

Try some petrol, liberally soaked on a rag

It'll shift the tar/crud and it's cheap

There's always the venerable WD40. Autoglym do a really good tar and spot remover which i've used on my anodised Adv wheels with success, but it does cost more than Johnny's suggestion. I believe a spot of paraffin soaked in a rag might do the trick too. But definitely stay away from the wonder wheels…. too abrasive

Heres another question on the cleaning front. Whats the best cleaner to get the ingrained dirt out my seat? Dont worry, Im not thinking wonder wheels...

Do a search for tar removing cleaning products, Ive got a big tin of Autosmart Tardis which works really well and dissolves road tar perfectly.

Old fashioned tar remover - turpentine not white spirit will do the job. Don't let it get near to any bodywork paint.

Stiff bristled kitchen brush & a bucket of hot water with car shampoo

Liberally apply and brush the seat hard

Rinse with cold water

Are you not a big cleaner then?

It's not tar I bet it's good old bmw corrosion.

I'd go for that as well.......cover with ACF50, allow a fine film of dust/muck to adhere and just ride it
