My 16 plate GS has the keyless ignition. Am going on a trip soon & am wondering where to store my spare key. (The plastic one with a transponder in it)
I had initially stashed it in my wallet but this morning the bike refused to switch on. I'd read in the manual only yesterday that you aren't supposed to have 2 keys in close proximity to each other due to it confusing the wifi lock.
So, where to stash it? May try wrapping it in tin foil?
Any thoughts?

I keep my spare at home in a drawer. Main key goes inside a secure pocket in my motorcycle jacket, its always there when I need it and I never take it out or fiddle with the pocket. Works for me. I guess there's always the possibility of me losing my jacket:nenau

dear lord you can organize a trip away but cant fathom where to put a fucking key:D

You have to place the plastic key very close to the receiving unit to get the bike to start, so having it your wallet should be far enough away to have no effect.

to give a more sensible answer !!!! I keep mine in my inner bag of the top box .. it causes no hassle and when I'm not on the bike the bag isn't either , so can't be started by a third party

Foil works!

Yes thats how you'd use it on its own when needed in an emergency but it can cause problems (see what it says in the manual)
That must be what happened to me. I tried wrapping the spare in foil just as an experiment & it didnt cause the problem.
Hopefully stashed amongst my luggage it should be ok.

It's called a wallet key - i kept mine in my wallet. ;)

Having previously had a keyless Ducati where we found it necessary to buy a "dumb" key, which my wife kept in her pocket for the luggage and fuel cap and I had to have a special key holder as it didn't have a hole for a key ring, I decided not to bother with keyless.

It works fine in a car, but not ideal on a GS. It maybe better on the RT and 1600S where the luggage is keyless.

No help at all, but my opinion.

Rubber glove time.......

So if you can't carry the spare key on you person what happens when you go on holiday , does it mean you cannot take the spare incase the original is lost/stolen or fails to work ?

Also if it means the spare has to be kept in the luggage, how would an insurer view a claim on a bike stolen with the spare key that was left in a pannier or top box ?
