Taking delivery of a 2011 GSA next monday, it will be my 1st BMW.
Where do you guys recommend i fit my Autocom logic & my Kenwood radio for bike to bike communication. On my FJR i fitted both under the front seat, on the GSA there dose not seem to be very much room to fit the autocom never mind the radio has well.
Where are yours located? and what are the options?

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil

Your right not a lot of room, I have a TC GSA and I have my Autocom SPA mounted in the tool tray under the front seat, you can squeeze the Kenwood in there as well (if you leave out the top tray)but I found the reception a bit crap in hilly areas, Kenwood now mounted on a ram mount up front next to the instruments. Covered the Autocom with a bit of rubber mat as lots of water still gets kicked up into the under seat area.

Autocom in tool tray under seat. Radio up front. Keeps the aerial upright and you can easily get at the controls.

How much cash do you have to spare? A Ballistic LiFePo battery will fit under the petrol tank by the ABS module. It will need a braket, etc, blah, blah. But will leave a huge space under the seat where the old battery used weight things down.

Lift out the tool try and put the logic under that, have easy access to the aux socket as well so you can power it from the wire on plug but take the earth direct to battery if I recall. Then fit the Kenwood on top in the tool tray. All together only wires coming out are the helmet plugs and PTT switch and small earth wire. Down side is the radio range is crap as its on its side :blast Can fit an external antenna search is your friend..:thumb2

I also put the Autocom under the seat but I put my ken wood radio in my tank bag it keeps a good signal to.

Sorry this is the first opportunity i have had to reply to the thread.
When i spoke to the dealer he suggested to locate the autocom by the fuel tank where the manual goes, is this a viable alternative to locating it under the seat where the tool kit goes?

Angus & Roadcraft I like where you have located your Radio, Do you ever get problems with it getting it wet has it is a little exposed to the elements, also how did you fasten the radio to the ram mount is there some sort of bracket available to go on the back of the radio. On the back of my kenwood there is the battery and cant work out how i would put a bracket on the back of the radio.

I have a pro talk and they are supposed to be pretty waterproof, I have toured for days in real wet weather and not had an issue with the radio getting wet the screen does a good job of keeping the rain off. I never take it off the bike. I have carried a plastic bag and elastic band around with the intent of sticking it over the radio but never used it.

The bracket is a standard ram mount the holes line up with the two belt clip screw holes on the pro talk. So i use a bit of double sided sticky tape and the two belt clip screws.

Ram part number is:

RAM-B-347

I don't think the spa would fit? The logic might but i would be more worried about water getting on it from between the tank and front edge of the seat.

I've had an autocom mounted there on a previous GS. It worked well and the only downside was the rider's cable had to be coiled and stored behind one of the tank panels.
