I believe the Japs did a similar thing in the 80s to stress test the CX500 engine, they used them as pumps in the paddy fields.

I had a look at their website : the engine has a cooling fan, and an oil cooler. Couldn't find pictures of the 'front' side though. Weight 167kg with full gas tank. Pumps 1000l/minute at 15bar, maximum 2000l/minute.
BMW boxers are being used in small aircraft too.
Great to see these engines doing other stuff.

Now I know why the standard BMW exhaust is so heavy : the double coating acts as an insulator, limiting the max temp to 70°C.
