Which oil?

Hi
This is my first post.

I am about to change the oil on my 2005 R1200GS with 45000 miles on the clock.

I’ve bought the following oil as I thought it was the one recommended on the Motorrad website:
Castrol Power 1 Racing SAE 10W-30; JASO MA-2 (JASO T903: 2006); API SL.

However, reading the handbook, it says that a SAE 10W-30 oil is for use between -20 degrees and +10 degrees centigrade. Also, the handbook doesn't list "SL" as a suitable API type either, although I have no idea what this means. Is the oil I’ve bought suitable for my bike and for summer use or should I buy a different type? If so, which one should I get please?

Maybe because the R1200 is a (modern) current bike people expect it to use fancy (modern) thin oils. It doesnt like thin oil so confusion reigns.

Mine does seem to run quieter using 20w50. Take no notice of the piss takers it's all designed to build character, and usually does........

Many thanks for all your replies. Sorry for being a nob by not searching out the answer for myself first. I've arranged to send the Power 1 oil back and exchange it for Act Evo 4T 20W-50 instead. Out of interest does anyone have a view on whether the 20-50 oil I bought in error would have likely damaged the bike in any way???
