White Horse Historical Tour Sunday 10th May 2009

will the byway routes be worth a gamble (with or without unwilling son strapped on back)?

Others, from previous years, have done the route with pillions on similar tyres.

See how you get on with the first byway - it is fairly easy - if you don't fancy it halfway down I can pillion your son the rest of the section.

The ridgeway section might be the one to avoid simply because it has "proper" ruts, but by the time we get to that you'll be in the swing of it :thumb

Me & Mrs Stig will be attending .. Never been off road so we might miss those bits out .. Unless you fancy too pillons on your bike if we get into trouble :-)

See you Sunday.

Cheers
Steve

Hi

I have just picked up my new 800gs [I keep saying this as tomorrow it will not be so new!] and wondered whether it would be total madness to come on this tour - much as I want to. The bike is not on TKCs but the original bridgestones but with dry weather the offroad bits maybe just dusty tracks. Any advice would be really welcome...

Thanks.

Nope - approx 45 mins after picking up my new bike last year...

but with dry weather the offroad bits maybe just dusty tracks.

Give or take, that is true.

Thanks Clive - I'll see you at Hungerford at 1000 with my pack lunch.

PS Thanks for organising this.

Wave...

I'll be passing through Hungerford between 9.30/10.00 tomorrow so if you're still at the garage I will give you all a TOSSER's wave.....:tosser...:D

Have a good day..

Won't be able to make it tomorrow .. So it will have to next year for me :-(

Sorry about that ..
Steve

bugger im tied up tomorrow and could only get an early pass for brekkie at the ace.

maybe next time , i had a good ride down that way last weekend and ended up on the plains:augie

note to self ,,must get TKCs sorted:D

Thanks Clive for a great ride out. Sorry i broke the trips clean record by toppling over while navigating the rut's. Luckily, the only significant damage was the clutch lever - a good excuse for me to get an adjustable one which i'll be able to reach easier.

Thanks clive. a top day out and excellent weather. still got bugs in my teeth, well done on the ridgeway everyone, and no-one even ran over a dog/old lady/ pushchair!!!? Next year can we stop at the loo with the view.

Another well deserved thanks Clive. The new 800GS now has mud and street cred! Although my arms feel like they have been pulled from their sockets.

Thanks Clive for a really good ride out :thumb2, finally managed to pluck up the courage to take the beast off road and found out what I've been missing.
Will no doubt be returning across the 'plain' more often.

Thanks again

More well deserved thanks to Clive, and everyone who participated in the Wiltshire tour, making it such a cracking day out! Thoroughly enjoyed my first novice exploration into by-way/offroad riding, despite now aching like an achey thing, and nearly dropping it in the Ridgeway ruts!

Maybe knobbly tyres will now be a consideration when the conti trail attacks reach the end of their useful life.... :bounce1

Thanks for organizing this Clive.

Although I came and went on the route I had a good day.

Cracker again!!!

I have calculated, using the Mapsource measuring tool, that we covered 28.8miles offroad (me 230 miles in total)

My first attempts at movies on a bike and the results are Cr*p

I now know why people use helmet cams !!!

The resuls, when the camera is attached to the bike frame are, eyeball shaking
Here is a smoother one of many, due to grass. I may post others later, but dont hold your breath cos uploading is killing my broadband
Starts with "Sorry Steve!" for holding him back with my camera faffing. The lens jammed with all of our dust!:
