Who balances their own tyres?

My rear tyre gets done on the dynamic balancer just like any other wheel that fits the machine. Plonk it on spin it up etc etc. no reason to change the dynamic settings other than for wheel size.

The front has to be static balanced of course

Tyre balancing

I have used these on and off for a few years and seem to do job.

That said, the last couple of changes I haven't bothered and haven't noticed anything untoward.

The only downside with the beads is that you need to take them out of the old tyre to put in the new and having new tyres approx every 2 months this became a additional chore.

I have generally had tyres fitted and dynamically balanced but have also fitted my own tyres and done a static balance without any problems. The main difference is that a full dynamic balance will balance in two planes whereas a static balance is only one plane. This matters for a car tyre, where the width to diameter ratio is much greater than for a bike, but for a bike and particularly a 19" front wheel, it's not a big issue.
