At the risk of opening this thread up to a “laugh and take the piss “ corner the question is genuine.
How many GS/A 1300 owners have had issues with their new machines?

As posted in another thread my new GSA was due to be picked up yesterday but dealer called and said they had lost the key fob..I could still have it but would have to use the spare plastic key under the mud guard to start the thing….F*** that....I said.
New key apparently arriving next week and bike will now be delivered to my home address end of April.
Key fob lost at £250 ?… really…….?…..or key fob and electrics not working even before bike has left showroom?
Getting a bit gittery that the bike is going to be more of a nightmare than joy,,,.

I just still find it amazing that we read about so many issues with this new machine and considering the costs how can BMW be happy at selling a model with seemingly soooo many problems….especially electrical.

Ask them for a copy of the invoice for the key fob for your records so you can see if they really lost the key?

Remember - those who have issues will shout the loudest.

You read about so many issues and still bought one?

Apart from the recalls the only issue I've had is the adaptive ride height not working which took 3 attempts to fix.
The dreaded fuel cap not opening reared its head last week, loosened the 2 front bolts and lubed the pin seems OK now. This issue 1st happened on my new 1250 in 2019 how this has not been sorted is beyond me !

Thanks, good tip and totally agree with the last statement. I am sure there are many who are completely satisfied.....and that's why i asked the question to gauge.... Thanks for your post Sly.

I've had a TE since October, now have 6k on it, and had no issues.
Ride height unnecessary-ness is set to go up- stay up setting, and it's never played up.
Used pretty much every day, all through the last winter.
I use heated vest, and the grips/seat, and again all good.
As above, you tend to hear about problems rather than the bikes that have been fine. I use Lind at Welwyn Garden City. I book service dates early, with a bike.
I've got Bumot panniers. Had to remove the electric std. Setup to get the frame on. Apart from that, it's all standard.
Screen is fine for me at full up all the time.
Never changed anything else. Standard fit tyres.
Just ride it.
120 miles a day.
If you see the invoice for the key, and gauge their responses, you're probably okay to go.
Key is coded to the bike, so I'd be asking for the one that's lost to be forwarded if they find it.

Unnecessary-ness? Not if you're 5ft 8 and carry a pillion for 90% of the time it's a brilliant add on.Why did you spec it if you don't need it ?

Got about 5,500 km on mine, had it since Jan 24, no problems whatsoever apart from the recalls, never had any symptoms so just got them done at the annual service

I love mine (y)
How many recalls so far ?

I’ll keep brief and hopefully get them all in.

GS13no.1
Delayed delivery due to starter relay issue (think it had two more changes)
rode home
First ride out it wouldn’t start and was recovered to dealer.
C.5000 miles no issue
Right switch gear failure in France. Had to be left there and recovered.
Rode to Innis
Next ride wouldn’t switch on then did with no lights, indicators, TFT etc.
Rejected.

GS13no.2
Rode home.
First ride out x3 ride height messages. Back to dealer
Recalled for right switch gear replacement and starter relay.
Out last Sunday for a spin and got the adaptive ride height messages twice but cleared by switching on off.
Only 1100 miles on this one so feeling confident it will….

Go Honda

16 months after launch and there are still reports of the same issues even with the GSA piss poor BMW we should be past " teething issues "by now.
The luggage supply problems with the GSA,obviously not learnt anything from the vario debacle.
But we still keep buying them,me included !

They replaced the starter relay at the running in service, I didn't know it was effected until they told me after the service

They replaced the starter relay again at the first annual service about 2 weeks ago, I believe they've changed the part and gone back to a traditional electro magnetic relay but I haven't looked

They also replaced the right hand switch gear

That's it for me, I've had no symptoms and the bike is fantastic

Yet Bods still happy to part with a decent wedge in exchange for one …. ahem … occasionally with a missing key or missing (for months) luggage that they have paid for upfront and be a guinea pig for the privilege to boot 🤪
Some are even happy to part with an additional £600-£700-£800 a year to insure it, compared to £300-£400 to insure their perfectly good and functioning two/three year old 1250.

Would it be rude to say - Enjoy your new bike Grant!? 😬

So apart from the recalls ( :blast ) the adaptive ride height not working isn’t the only issue you’ve had - or do you not count trivial matters like not being open the fuel cap as issues?

:D

2 issues then, not as many or serious as some thankfully ,recalls to be completed at it's 6,000 service in May.

Of course, it’s true that those with problems tend to be the ones who shout but the shouts still represent real issues and they seem to be far too prevalent.

In the last few years I’ve had an RTLC, a 1200GS, an 850GS, a 1250GS and an Urban GS. Only the UrbanGS (2018) has been trouble free.

In comparison, I’m on my second V4 Multistrada and have yet to encounter a single problem or niggle, nor are the Ducati forums alive with bods reporting issues. Seems to me that one set of Germans are on top of quality control and one set aren’t.

Just sayin…

If you remember, a lot of the first Multi V4S bikes had to have their engines replaced

Don’t knock it EV, at least BMW sort problems out, KTM have a rather different approach to problems such as chocolate cams for example
