Who has had issues with their 1300 GS/A’s?

I'm only 600 miles in and no issues so far. Absolutely love the engine performance even though it sounds like a bag of nails!

The luggage debacle is bloody annoying but the bike is excellent and I'm loving it

Had the ride height warning twice…. Turning ignition off, and re starting fixed it.
Had the tyre pressure for front wheel give me a warning whilst away in France… stopped and checked the pressure with little gauge I always carry, and pressure was fine….. hasn't happened again since.

Now bike is a year old, 5k miles as I have other bikes. Still love this bike.
Had a 1250 for three years, also no problems.

My very first 1200 (early one) had the key reader die, and the fuel pump sensor go…. Both apparently were common problems.
BMW warranty sorted both problems with no hassle…. So I wasn’t really pissed off, as i accept mechanical items sometimes have problems.

R1300 GSA had it for 2 months and covered 2,500 miles. Fitted with the ride height and no problems so far. I've fitted a taller screen and it's beautifully quiet behind it.
Fantastic bike which makes me grin every time I head for the Welsh mountains. So pleased that I bought it.
No issues as far as I'm concerned. Cracking bike....

The failures in the automatic ride height adjustment are just a message that the GS(A) are still really meant for tall people, and all you shortarses should just buy one of the many other bikes that actually fit you properly :)

Yes I like the bike but every visit to the dealers is a 200km round trip
I’m of on a trip in 2 weeks so hopefully it will be sorted

I’ve had mine a year and 4 months and done nearly 12,000 miles.

It’s had the starter relay recall done twice, it caught fire at just 600 miles from new.

It’s had the entire TFT replaced as well but aside from that it’s been perfect.

1300GS - 12 months - no issues for me.
But I am very disappointed on behalf those owners that have had constant problems - that sucks at this price point.

The fiasco with the luggage must have been a disaster for head office.
I'd ordered the full set but when nothing arrived I quickly bailed out and went elsewhere.

Recalls and check-ups don't particularly bother me providing it's not interfering with the enjoyment of the bike - which in my case it hasn't.
A round trip to my dealer is 130 miles and realistically involves a whole day at least; so if I was doing that once a month for electronic issues I'd be getting hot under the collar.

On the basis that the riders with big significant problems are by far in the minority (my assumption) - I think BMW should to be offering those few people much more than just roadside assist and free coffee. Free Easter treats all round?
Why or why did I put that into print!

Just has the Adaptive Ride Height Error come up - :(
What solutions have worked other than taking back to the dealer?

Sometimes, the box refuses to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It feels like the shifter hits solid metal, so I retry a couple of times with a clutchless, trailing throttle, and it snicks in. By then, I have lost speed and have to change down to second, lol. I put it down to BMW idiosyncrasy and curse German engineering.

That’s engineering progress Sir and the character of the bike. :thumby:

I’m convinced mine does it if I start the bike before the tft screen has fully loaded up.

The issue is certainly intermittent - I took it back in to the dealer yesterday as soon as the message flagged up again as it's been on and off.

Have been told that BMW have just come out with a new fix within the last couple of weeks.

Suggested that they've been changing the hydraulic pump to solve the problem but now decided the issue is elsewhere, possibly just a change of fluid type - but it was pretty vague.

Taking it back next week to get sorted (hopefully) - and will update after that.

Not reached first service yet, but already very impressed with the 1300. No adaptive cruise or adjustable ride height, dont want or need it.
Bike stood for 4 months since delivery, started 1st go. Everything works.
Imo night and day better than the 1250 in every respect. Im running the very smallest, manual screen, as I prefer to get some air when the weather is hot..so not benefitting from the improved aero. A compromise that works for me. I suspect most will want standard screen and winglets..

R1300gs Triple Black c 4000 miles no issues, recall done couple of weeks ago, starter relay and kill switch replaced, plus a software update. My 6th GS IMHO lightyears ahead of the two 1250s (I put 25,000 plus miles on each of them, again both trouble free).
Avoided BMW panniers used my Burmot.

Reading all this I’m kind of glad I went for one of the last 1250s in the showroom. Just like I did with my the 1150 way back in the day. All good so far.

Just had a fantastic short trip away on my 1300 - with the Adaptive Ride Warning in place the whole time.
Service manager said it was fine to ride normally so I did.

The bike felt a little stiffer than usual and the message said it was in the lowered position.
That didn't adversely affect the enjoyment of the bike to any degree - still felt fine to ride reasonably aggressively and with 'vigour'.

I still had a great time and the bike handled fine - So if it comes up I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Yep, just had mine out for 100miles of glorious roads Moira to Portrush along the coast road. Got the three adaptive warnings within a minute of leaving. Fuelled up 5 minutes later and they disappeared on restarting.

They are a great bike but this may be my last BMW.

I know this will set off a storm of angry responses from the unquestioning disciples but…

How is a bike that has had to go back to the dealer for a “starter relay, a kill switch and a software update” counted as having had “ no issues”?

because they were recalls and in effect transparent to the rider and their riding. Hope that helps.
