Mine now also needs front discs and they want How Much?! for a new set.
Still on my original front discs

Thanks Micky..
When you replaced the stator, was the voltage rectifier replaced ?

About 125,000 miles now. Odometer is showing about 120,000 but it missed 5 or 6 weeks of miles due to an ABS Canbus fault (s/h ABS pump obtained from Sherlocks).
On 4th stator (1 replacement then 2 rewinds) - they get HOT! The paint on the engine cover over the stator has been cooked to a matt finish.
Replaced clutch and cam chain w/tensioners in the last few months but interestingly, have not replaced steering bearings for a long time.
Sometimes uses a little oil but only after sustained high speed motorway use.
Fuel consumption still averaging 60 mpg which includes some "generous" motorway speed!
Hi Smythson,
I did replace the R/R once as it was the done thing to do. The first thing I would do though is check all the connectors on the charging circuit and wire in a voltmeter to the battery either with an isolating switch or via an ignition activated relay to keep an eye on charging level (14-14.5 volts)
There is clearly an overheating issue as BMW redesigned the rotor to provide extra cooling.
I thought about a switching/circuit breaker R/R but didn't think there was enough info/feedback.
I suppose we could just do the maths and work out just how much extra leccy power we actually need then get the stator rewound for less output??
On an aside - I don't suppose you have an old stator you'd like to sell? It'd save me taking my bike off the road ....

2009 f658 with 132,200 miles. Two stators, and that's all for engine. Steering head bearings and rear wheel bearings for the rest. Still on original fork seals, clutch and water/oil pump. Clean fork tubs and apply rainX to tubs.
I think you're ahead & that's more than Micks
Good to see these are reliable
