Who has the highest mileage F800?

Magic miles Micky. I am only at 11 thou since July last year. Great bikes
It's great weather at moment on the Emerald Isle:thumb2

Now on the west coast of Ireland for a few days, cold but glorious sunshine :aidan

85,000 miles :thumby:

Five years old next month

:beerjug:

Can't believe it's 5 years since you've had the 800GS, that's gone quickly. Didn't you chop a 1200GSA in for it?

Dave

Hi Dave ..... yup, swopped my 1200GSA in for it. Haven't regretted that for one mo.
Five years gone by quickly? Ha .... you're not kidding :rob

:beerjug:

Great thread......

Can't believe I didn't come across this thread before buying my 09 800GS in January. No worries though - clearly :thumb.
I bought mine to take over courier duties from my 09 Tenere which has covered over 130,000 miles (not sure exact amount cos the odometer maxes out at 199,999 km).
So as expected, I can look forward to great service from the peachy Rotax engine :thumb:bow....hopefully! The mpg readout should help to encourage smooth restrained riding - I'm frequently seeing 80-100mpg when chuffing along in top.
As for the steering bearings......:blast.....8,000 Miles since January 7th and they need changing for the THIRD time. Forth time if you count the fact they were changed when the dealer acquired the bike.

Just passed 24,000 miles and rising daily....in all weathers (except ice!).

90,000 miles service today :thumb

Valve clearances still within allowed tolerances, never required adjustment to date :D

Two weeks in Norway and then two weeks down in the French/Italian Alps coming up in June/July :JB

:beerjug:

That's very good news about the valve clearances Micky and bodes well for SWMBO's 650GS twin. Her bike needed no adjustment at 12000 and Steve at Motoscot suggested they won't need checking again until she reaches 36000. She is close to 19000 on the clock now and has done 13500 on the bike (it had 4500 on the clock when she bought it) since getting it at the end of December 2011.

Good going Micky! :beerjug:

How's the clutch been? I had the 36,000 mile service done a couple of weeks ago (a bit late at about 38k) and was told the clutch may need replacing soon as the cable slack was all used up!! WTF??!! My 09 Tenere has over 130k miles on it's original clutch........:nenau

No probs at all with the clutch Rick :thumb

Maybe adjusted once early days, never needed adjustment to date. Had plenty of use up the Stella last week, plenty of 'slipping' but the free play never varied.
Must be well bedded in by now methinks

:beerjug:

Good to hear! :thumb

I got mine in January with about 16k miles on it but courier use is piling the miles on quickly. Just gone past 40k yesterday. Just hope the BMW bits are a match for the Rotax engine.

Mickey or Rick, have you guys done brake rotors yet?
Any advice?

Front brake discs still original, pads replaced at about 74,000 miles (still well serviceable and plenty of life in them still)

Rear disc has been replaced some miles ago ...

My only advice is to always use genuine discs and pads. There are those cheapskates amongst us that will advocate cheaper after market replacements

The originals are cheaper in the long run :thumb

:beerjug:

Only changed rear brake pads (organic). Just hope the front brake discs last somewhere near as long as those on my Tenere.

Mickey, which "aftermarket" discs/pads have you had (a) bad experience(s) with?
Never had any issues myself with non-OE "packaged" consumables.

Ferodo, years ago with an old R100RS

Other than that just watching and listening to people and learning from their experiences

If a set of original front pads last me easily to 74,000 miles why fit after market ones :nenau

:beerjug:

Re the pads, I can understand why you might think that. That's bloody good mileage out of a set of front brake pads. Although I suspect your riding style/environment may play an important role in that.....Lots of motorway use, engine braking??? :beerjug:

I'm more concerened over the prices of the brake discs - particularly the front. But hopefully I won't have to cross that bridge for a while! :bow

Lol :beerjug:

I only use branded stuff as well....like EBC, Kyoto, Brembo. :aidan
Mostly EBC organic ones though cos that's what my local trials/enduro dealer keeps in stock (when I've left it to the last minute!:blast) and I had a bad case of pitting (corrosion due to the dissimilar metals with sintered pads) on my Tenere's front discs during its first winter. I also value disc longevity over that of the pads.

BTW, BMW pads are.....err......actually Brembo aren't they?

My bike had an annual service last week at just 9K and I was told the same thing!! I do do a lot of town riding but WTF indeed!?!

:eek::eek:

Not good!

This is the first bike I've owned where the clutch cable needs LOOSENING!! Normally the cable stretches more than the clutch plates wear. I guess not having any adjustment at the handlebar lever end or a removable splined (adjustable) lever arm doesn't help. :nenau
