After putting the bike away yesterday I noticed that the rear light was still on.

I checked the ignition and it was off.

Turned the ignition on and left the self check to finish.

Turned the ignition off and rear light went off.

Here's hoping it's a CANBUS one off and not the start of a saga!

Anyone else had this one?

BTW it's a TT rear light unit.

They all do that Sir. ISTR that if you switch the ignition off while holding the indicator switch the rear light and the front parking light stay on. It must be a German thing, my Golf does that same thing if you leave the indicator switched on and take the key out. In fact, Golfs have been doing that since the days of the MK1.

If you turn the ignition off and then operate the indicator switch, any time within a certain time period (30 secs I think), the front and rear lights come on for parking purposes. If you're not aware, it's quite easy to flatten the battery.

Ahah!

Thanks Schtum, that'll be it. I'll replicate it to make sure. See I knew this forum wasn't just a waste of time and webspace;)

parking lights are activated by hitting the left indicator within 30 seconds of switching off the engine, switching the ignition on, then off again will clear it

it be in 'et manual

YES IT HAPPENED TO ME

tHE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY 1200 AT ABOUT 600 MILES. oNE TIME ONLY, PUT IT AWAY, NOTICED TAIL LIGHT WAS STILL ON! I restarted it a couple of times during which I got very nervous as I was afraid for the battery, then it fixed itself! I now have near 6K and it never happened again.
