Will not start in first gear with clutch in r1200gs lc 2014 I thought it was the clutch micro switch so fitted new one tody and its still the same any ideas?

Did you replace the whole switch, bikes with cruise control have 2 micro switches, picture below is switch from 2017 model

I replaced the clutch switch with the same one shown above will now look at side stand switch

Would the side stand switch prevent the bike running in any gear? As in, not just preventing starting?

Still points to clutch switch, check it works then start inspecting wires.

I am pleased to report modes change fine after testing it today. I have now found out that no bmwr1200gs lc will start with stand down unless in neutral lol I cant believe I asked the question:blast
It was the clutch micro switch that stops you changing modes and you do need to order the correct one.

and the old one still clicks so dont think because you can hear a click its working.

I had exactly the same issue and replaced the processor with part number
32728537609 (32 72 8 537 609) (GSA LC 2014)

The original microprocessor showed major signs of wear and the small metal sensor/flaps where completely loose & floppy. This in turn made the bike think that the clutch was out even when it was pulled in. So the bike could not be started in gear and riding modes could not be changed on the fly.
I bought my OEM replacement switch on EBay for €80 inc. shipping.
It took all of 2 mins to swap out the sensor/switch and everything works as it should now.

Micro-Switch... :)

Regarding the sidestand switch, it’s not like a normal switch you can just bypass if it plays up. It’s all jiggers pokery electronic stuff

Tried bending the clutch microswitch tab, tried shiming switch leaver, last resort drilled a 2mm hole by hand exposing the contacts, 2 or 3 sprays with wd40 contact spray and its fixed..starts every time as soon as it clicks now. Taped up the holes
