I need to install a new hard drive into my HP desktop. Problem is that HP didn't supply an operating system disc.

I have the sticker with the activation code so don't need any code just a disc! I dont want to buy windows again as I have the licence already!

Has anyone got one I can borrow? supply me a copy? Know a source?

It's Windows XP Media Centre edition 2005 (HP).

Any help appreciated

Roger.

Try piratebay or one of the other torrent sites. As you have an activation code I wouldn't feel guilty.

Hp Laptops (like the one I'm writing this on) have an installer on a partition (typically D:\HP Recovery) of the HDD that re-installs Windows XP Media Center 2005. It also allows you to make one copy of the backup partition onto DVD-rom/CD-rom.

I think you have to press F10 during boot then select format and reinstall the operating system IIRC.

Do you have an external USB hard drive?
I have Norton Ghost. You could ghost your hard drive to the removable and then restore it back to the new hard drive. Saves reinstalling lots of software.
Beware that many new hard drives are not formatted and the windows disc or an older windows disc would do this for you.
