I've used my GS with all front bodywork removed. Winglets reduce air fluttering around chest and under arms so are handy in cold and rain. You might want them removed in hot weather.
I have a 6mm sliver of 8mm bore oil hose under the winglet bolts. Without that the plastic is more likely to get cracked also the outer edges on aftermarket types can rub the bodywork.
For anyone with a GS - take off the front beak plastic. You will then see the mounting brackets. You will need for clip nuts and to drill holes at the pips moulded underneath. 8mm will make sure you have enough clearance.
