Bike up on ramp, battery off and on optimate, panniers off, engine guards off and time for a deep clean. Ok I don't ride in the winter cos it's too cold and too much salt on roads up here, besides I got a Hilux with a heater and BF Goodrich tyres! Question is do you drain the fuel or leave it in? I have never drained it before and all good come April, also what else do you guys do for winter storage?

But... some of the nicest rides are during the winter months when the roads are clear, gorgeous sunshine, if a little fresh, but great all the same.

Then we have camping weekends round here in the winter...this was January 2010 (yes it is me )

change the air in the tyres as it'll be acclimatised to the warmer weather and that wears the insides during the cold months

You only do it on bikes with carbs as it evaporates in the carb and leaves a sticky residue, bunging then up. HTH Graham.

Even then, you only need to drain the float bowls - provided you leave the fuel taps "Off"

I've parked my bikes up every winter for a number of years now & never even thought about draining the fuel out..or even should the tank be full or MT.
I have a piece of wood under the front of the engine to just lift the front tyre off the ground.

I wash the bike down, give a a run to dry it off, wipe over the bolt heads etc with ACF 50, take off & clean under the front alternator belt cover, cover the bike up, battery on optimate....not removed or unplugged..forget about it till spring...

Don't be tempted to fire it up just to make sure everything still turns... this is the worst thing you can do unless your going to give it a blast up the road.

Ride into shed. Switch off ignition. Ignore it until spring.

Make sure you leave the ignition key in the ignition, so you don't lose it.

Soak in acf50 and keep it running ........ even the coldest winters have plenty of great biking days

A bit off topic...
Is it safe riding when it is really cold? I was on my way to Stoney Cove (diving ) yesterday and my car went over a patch of black ice and after a few 360 turns, I hit the middle barriers on the motorway, and that was on a straight part.

I believe it will be icy from now on...how do you maintain control on icy roads?
