Winter Hibernation

A bit off topic...
Is it safe riding when it is really cold? I was on my way to Stoney Cove (diving :D) yesterday and my car went over a patch of black ice and after a few 360 turns, I hit the middle barriers on the motorway, and that was on a straight part.

I believe it will be icy from now on...how do you maintain control on icy roads?

You don't:augie Anyone who rides on ice must want their bumps felt uness they have spiked tyres:D

Riding in ice

I ride all year (have always done so) and my advice FWIW would be:
Don't ride in ice or snow if you have any option. I've got away with snow a few times (when I didn't know there was any or had to get home). I've had a couple of big nasty moments on ice (not fun) and have come off a couple of times (even less fun). For example, last winter going home from work I knew it was cold, but it didn't seem THAT cold until, no warning, bang down on one side. No real harm done, but it still cost a new rocker cover (crash bars not that effective then), plus it was a right pain (literally as well - massive bruise on the elbow, despite armour). It was really difficult to pick the bike up on an icy road and all the time I was worried about someone coming round the corner and running me over.

A new rocker cover would have paid for a taxi to work for a whole week (never mind the bus).

Luckily my brother fixed the holes in the riding gear (he does that sort of thing for a living). Would have been even more expensive, otherwise.

with our heavy vehicles it is a bit of a challenge on ice and snow. they :thumb drop in a instant ....... get something very light and you're flying .......i did it for 3 swiss winters but on 125 cc ....
