Liberel coating of Vaseline, does it for me everytime.......:D

i feel a strong tide of inevitabilty about this post:

all together now...

but what about the bike?

Tectyl

Sorry, bit of mis-information in my earlier post, the Tectyl product code for bikes & cars is in fact 506 WD, not 190. Posted in work and checked the can when I got home.

Expensive, but made for bikes and removes winter grime brilliantly. Spray on, soft brush to agitate and rinse away. Leaves some kind of protective silicon film too which stops dirt sticking. I water it down by 1/2 to make it go further. recommended.:thumb

Definately!

This stuff is brilliant. They do an aerosol can of PTFE based after cleaning spray. It's safe on everything (avoid brake discs though as it's very slippery!) and will even chase water out of places you didn't know were there!:thumb

I spray the DR with "Protect'N'Ride". It's a waxy-type stuff that you just spray on and leave for the duration. It's a pain to remove (with white spirit) come the Spring, but everything was nice and clean underneath.

This year I shall be mostly spraying my GS with a liberal coating of ACF-50 purchased from the merry people at M&P.

(Well we use it to protect our aircraft and it seems to work okay).

I go to an indian restaurant -

order the hottest, oiliest dish they make - no rice.
- also 4 pints of Kingfisher..........

go home and pss all over the bike. - it'll never rust cos you'll never go out on it cos it smells so bad...

satisfaction guarenteed.

ps make sure you've parked the bike in the road for the 'washing' - and the neighbours ( daughters ) aren't watching ?

if they are - just be prepared for commendations on pressure, aim , quantity and - of course , size :D

cos its quite a big bike...............

A thin film of moly grease on exposed metal bits (banjo bolts especially) to keep them clear of salt is the basis of the best protection - but all you really need to do is to stop cleaning around early Nov and then not clean the damn thing again until April - maybe even May. Ride the bike at every opportunity - don't wash it - the salt will sit on top of the layer of road gunk - if you wash it - you have to start again, or wash it daily.

Oh, did I mention: Don't wash your bike!

I also note with dismay that the leading edge of the clutch and brake master cylinders along the mating surfaces has corroded under the paint and is blistering. I ran a smear of grease along that too when I prepped my bike a couple of w/e's ago.

Cheers,
Fin.
