Im currently waiting for m new ard cases to be delivered. I am wanting to add some l.e.d lighting to them. I have found a site that i can get l.e.d lighting for motorbikes. Just not sure whats the best way to connect into my `08 gsa. I want to have front and rear marker lights on my cases, and also want to fit internal lights in the cases. Can i just chop in to the wiring in the rear light and add a spur so when the cases are on i can have a water proof plug that the lights plug into, or do i have to run some sort of seperat switch.

All help and infomation would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers all.

I would doubt this would work as the ZFE unit will sense too much current being drawn and give a failure alarm. Not a good idea to hack into the wiring.

I would use a separate supply under relay and switch control, if, I thought it was a good idea to do this.

Just out of passing interest, why do you want lights in the panniers?

Other than to light the inside, before some bright spark pops up.

Surely whatever bags or other tat inside the pannier (particularly if the pannier were full) would obscure the light, rather defeating the purpose?

If they are not full, just looking inside, would seem to be easy. Or are you headed towards the Polar night?

Thanks tunneruk, thata just the ticket. I relly wanted my llights to come on with the bike`s own lights. The lights im going to fit are l.e.d`s so their current draw will be minimal.

The lights in the cases are for good reason i thought. If its dark and i dont have a torch, the a strip of l.e.d`s in the box rim will be handy, unlike some people i do venture out after dark and in the winter and offroad. That is what this bike is designed for :rob (sorry i will just get down off my high horse).

I will have to look in to this wiring a bit more me thinks.

Cheers for now, all very much apprieciated.:thumb2

To me, adding lights to the inside of a panniers sounds like a conmplicated way of doing things. Just pop a small LED torch in the top of each pannier....
or gaffa tape it to the lid....(inside) ...thats what I do.

...and yes, I do ride at night, and have even been known to pitch a tent in the dark.

Thanks bub. just wanted to have lights in there, (:nenau)

Nice to know im not the only proper rider. :thumb2

Horse,

I would take a feed from the Pilot light in the headlight housing, you know the small 5w bulb. I also put power into one of my panniers, I live in Lindford near Bordon your welcome to pop over anytime and take a look at my setup and quite happy to help set yours up

I have ordered a switch from bmw to sit on the handle bars, can anyone explain the best place to find a swiched live light feed that i can use to switch the relay for the extra lights, have been playing with this problem and have put the wiring in place for the pannier boxes. I just need to find a swiched live, looked at the one on the back of the headlight, mmmmm. Not sure about cutting into and creating a spur. Seems to be two thoughts, is this canbus wiring or just normal wiring. I know a fair bit about wiring and know that cutting canbus is not good as it can change the resistance. More help would be welcome. Thanks all.

How about the live feed that is used for:

(a) The feed for the optional aux socket on the beak

or

(b) The dedicated GPS feed, by the headstock

If you want to use the headlight feed as the relay primary then just piggy back spade connector off it. I use this to power the relay for my aux. HID spots and don't have any issues.

+1 with no dramas.

I've taken a dipped beam +ve feed to a handlebar mounted switch then to +ve side of relay operating coil for my Aux lights. When igniton turned off, relay drops off when canbus shuts down after 30 secs and turns off aux lights.

I have similar lights on my 08 1200

I took the live and an earth feeds from the back of the rear power socket.

When the ignition is turned on the socket powers up and will provide you with a live feed for extra lights. No need for switches or relays

A good point about this installation is the lights remain on for about two min after ignition is turned off very helpful in a dark garage

I knew i could count on you fella`s. One problem i have looked and looked but i cannot find this power socket. May be my bike doesnt have it. I will probably take a live feed from the back of the lights by the sound of things this is the favorite place to go from.
