worn paint

yep i'm afraid wasn't too impressed with them when it went in for it's 600 mile service and i asked them to change the display from bar-psi , and thay charged me £8 for the priveledge even though it was already plugged into the computer

I would have just said I am not paying £8

and your point is what ,

you wear the same clothes as me or

no worn paint

???

It's not just HG trousers, I rubbed mine off with Rukka.

Perhaps you should start a poll to find out which trouser/boot combination is going to wear paint down?

It's not just HG trousers, I rubbed mine off with Rukka.

As did I.

Though now I think about it, I have worn HG, Rukka, Alipnestar and BuMW trousers (not all at once) too.

I wonder if one pair is more abrasive than the others?

I've heard this is done by other dealers too

NOG were very good and asked me how I wanted the computer set up

I like NOG :thumb2

FFS................this is getting silly (boots & trews)

If I spent £14k on a bike (not likely too:augie)...............I'd be peed off (but I would have put some tape on it before it got that bad:blast)

On my trials bike.................I have plastic frameguards and carbon airbox/exhaust covers (other riders don't), because I know it's gonna get scratched in competition

On my XChallenge....................I bought the BMW (TT) right frameguard and boy is it scratched:blast, on the left..... the swingarm has scratched from boot wear (frame is fine).................but I like the new burnished alloy finish now

On my 2 1150GSA's...................... I use nothing................because the black subframe paint is lustrous and thick and comes with appropriate heel/boot guards designed in..................before the 'bean counters' came along:rolleyes:

It's a bike, a piece of machinery...............check it over and use appropriate preventative measures or don't bother.................simples

FFS................

On my 2 1150GSA's........blah.......blah.....blah....

Time for some more pics of said wundermachines..............................

On second thoughts...................................Don't bother. Simples.......... :thumb2

Luckily I still have some feeling left in my legs so when I rode my 1200GSA for the first time I could actually feel my leg rubbing the frame. Convinced that I could'nt continue to keep my foot pointing exactly northwards (relatively speaking) and it would continue to rub I took the momentous decision to put some self amalgamating tape around the said frame as I'm too stingy to fork out for the real thing from Touratwat.

And for the record it's a Sidi/HG combo for me.

I also has some wear marks on the fairing and footplates of my K11 where my knees/ankles have rubbed but doubt I could claim that's BMW's fault. The paints really good on K11's too so I don't believe the issue has anything to do with paint thickness or quality. Friction will take most paints off regardless.

either alot of people on here have got more money than sence or they have very low expectations from a product that costs the best part of 14k

martin

I would say that anyone spending £14k on a motorbike has more money than sense.:augie

Datona boots and IXS trousers here and the paint has been rubbed away:rolleyes:

i just don't get it,

i know the wheels arn't going to fall off or the engine destroy itself because of a bit of paint on the frame wearing away

i just don't get how you see it as not a problem and just ignore it after all it's only a bit of paint and someone will sell you a guard you can put over it and why didn't i realise that in the first place all i had to do is buy every bit of bolt on crap and that will cure it.

so surely if you went and bought a car and the paint started to wear off the sill where your leg rubbed on it every time you got in it would be ok, or as rob farmer suggests just put some smoothrite on it, or if you looked hard enough you could probobly find a cover to bolt onto it .

maybe it's me and i'm expecting too much from a brand new product , hopefully i never have anything fail but if i do i'm sure i can find something to bolt onto it to cure it , or it's all part of the experience of owning a bmw

martin

im with you on this one - thats why i keep me old'un! :thumb

Funny you should say that:blast

Just been out to have a look:confused:

The Silver GSA that I've had from new has zero wear on the silver painted GS alloy footpeg hangers or the rear master cylinder guard

The Black GSA that I bought 2nd hand last year, has loads of wear on the silver painted GS alloy footpeg hangers (bright shiny alloy burnishing) & the rear master cylinder guard and is like a mirror finish

Both bikes are the same age 2005 (the Black GSA is actually a month newer) and mileage is the same at c. 26000miles

So...............in my unscientific conclusion.................it is down to riding style and hard use.

I mainly ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs, rather than flat-footed:confused:

Therefore a warranty claim to BMW is unsubstantiated and it is down to rider use:augie

:hide

23K, 4 1/2 year old GSA, paint still present and correct.

when i first read about this problem, i tried moving my feet into a position that touched the the frame. it felt really odd :eek

ok, the paint is shit, but chafing gritty boots against it for thousands of miles is going to wear any paint away. it's a completely different situation from your van door handles

2010 GSA 7K miles Sidi Adventure boots, H.G. gortex pants.

No sign of paint disapearing from frame :nenau

Best regards Stretch :comfort
PS Don't shoot the messanger :D

Well said, what a bunch of hairdressers GS riders are turning into :thumb2 it's just a bit of paint!

What if the dealer carries out a thorough investigation which results in it being found that your legs are the problem, not the paint?

They may offer to adjust your legs back to spec I suppose, or if you threaten legal action they may even get them replaced with a new pair.

For what it's worth, Goretex seems to be very abrasive in my experience. It took the laquer off the tank of my R1 in under 6 months. Never had the problem until I started to wear a Goretex jacket.

Spoilsport!

Just as it was warming up, too.

But, lo, what is this? AshR1 (he of the print out and heroic R1 commuting adventure) is riding in to save the day.

So away to your northern sheep pen with you Johnny B. There's a thread building here.

i think who ever used the name tossers as a collective was being polite, i think i'd use the more common name as wankers , thanks for the replies
