X ADV 750

The X-ADV was doing 51.5 mpg at 80 mph on auto strata so about 165 miles to empty . Today on N260 in Pyrenees it did 71mpg and I filled up at 190 miles with 1.5 litres left so 215 miles to empty .

Done 1000 miles in last week and it’s fabulous . It’s easily fast enough and I don’t think I was holding the GS boys up , though @Stevie4scoops and @rjsmith26 will know better than me 😜

I reckon the X ADV 750 will be a very competent and quick machine...my scooter is 'only' a ADV 350 but has surprised me by how well it performs

Different applications, I’d say the 350 is better in some circumstances and the 750 better in others, depends what you want it for

Yep, exactly, having owned more big bikes than you can shake a shitty stick at, moving to the ADV350 has been an 'education '..I'm loving it

My observations - riding a 1250GSA the XADV seems perfectly rapid, would not say its at all slow. I guess the only noticable diffrence (and I am comparing it to @Arsey on his turbine powered wing) is an A road overtake, it (as I would expect) lacks the punch of a big bike on a 50/60 mph overtake pull out and get past. Apart from that, in tight 2nd/3rd gear twisties Picos/Pyrennes It looks far more nimble than a big bike. Seeing how capable it has been so far on this trip - I am certainly considering one.

Watching this space...could be another convert (y)

I personally found the ADV 350 to be an absolute belter of a scooter. I took mine through the RDGA to the coast and found it a real hoot to ride.
Yes, occasionally it was a bit slower than a big bike, but that means you ride in a bit more of a relaxed frame of mind. The big benefit was having 48 ltrs of under seat storage so no panniers needed.
When I’m properly retired I may have another one or an X-ADV and do a longer tour, possibly down the Adriatic coast to Greece and spend more time away.

Have now done 1400 miles in last 8 days .
Bike is fucking ace. Mostly riding in Sport but occasionally manual .
Easy to trail brake into corners as rear brake is obviously controlled by left lever .
All day comfy with comfort seat . You definitely need the optional riding pegs as it transforms the riding position ,and you can use footboards when pottering or you want a leg stretch .
Averaged 62 mpg so far including about 150 miles of motorway . Filled up at 192 miles today with 1 litre (15 miles left).

Decided to resync the DCT when we arrived as I do it every few 1000 miles on Wing and is same procedure.
It probably doesn't need it but you do notice how smooth a reset makes it as the gears go ever so slightly out of sync over time . At least they do on the Wing . Will see if any difference in the morning but it takes under a minute

In other news, very happy with the Givi soft luggage and mounts .

It might lack the lunch of a 1390 or Multi but it’s still just plenty of go if you just flick it down to 4th on the +/- buttons

Agreed, mine hasn’t got the get up and go of my 1250 but as long as you know you’re going and get it in the right gear before you do it goes pretty well.

IMO, it more than makes up for this in so many other ways.

I had an ADV 350 before the 750 and they are very different but both brilliant - it depends what you want really.

How do you find the screen, it’s not terrible but I’ve not found the sweet spot as yet, I might try a deflector mounted on the top.

I’ve fitted a tinted Puig on mine . Bit taller than standard and it’s fine

Got up to 29 degrees in Vercors and was standing on pegs to get airflow through Klim jacket . Suddenly realised I could lower my screen on the fly.
What a difference !!

So in two weeks I’ve done this

IMG_4676.jpeg

All back roads apart from about 200 miles of motorway/dual carriageway.

The X-ADV exceeded expectations .

The comfort seat is all day comfortable , including a couple of 300 mile 8 hours days . You really need the optional rider pegs which then lets you alternate with pegs and footboards .Probably the most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden a long way, including the Wing .

My Puig screen , which is about 45cm taller than OE was brilliant . In high position I was riding at 80mph with helmet flipped back and no issues . No buffering and just clean wind blast .

In hot weather I lowered the screen right down and got clean cooling air over my torso. Still fine at 60/70 mph.

The motor/DCT has plenty of grunt and 80mph cruise is 4000 rpm. It’s rock solid at 80mph. You can take your hands off bars and zero shake.
I rode with preload would right up and suspension was firm but compliant . Great handling in the mountains . Never scraped the main stand -should have tried harder. Fuel consumption was generally about 65mpg which reflects in overall consumption . That gives about 200/210 to empty and I was filling up,at 180/190 with 1.5/2.5 lites left .

Can’t really think of a single negative apart from a slightly bigger tank would be nice . It’s 13.2 lites so 17 litres would allow about 280 mile range .

I’ve got my Wing, X-Diavel V4, Vstrom 800 and 1150 GSA at home as well as the X-ADV. If I had to only have one bike I’d choose the X-ADV as it does everything well.

Ignore the utter bollox spouted on here . It’s a brilliant bit of kit.

Bloody hell, stop it!

One day, one day.

£12,000 or so, is a lot cheaper than many motorcycles. But it’s not a cheap bargain, either. That said, it’s cheaper than a new T Max, I think.

Would I buy one? Good question….

I hold no bias against scooters per-se. I have been to the top of enough Alpine passes to know that there’s lots of different two-wheeled vehicles (some of which are scoffed at on these pages, as being totally unsuitable) that are fully capable of touring longer distances.

I have no need for the supposed convenience of a scooter around town. We are blessed (at least in London) with world class public transport, so to me it displays all the same disadvantages of any two-wheeled vehicle. Those same disadvantages extend to two-wheeled transport abroad. I can’t see where a scooter offers anything to tip the balance over a conventional motorcycle.

Is the 200 mile range adequate? Yes, undoubtedly. Adding more litres, only adds more weight to the current 230 kg. Google tells me that’s near enough the same weight as the very popular Yamaha Tenere 700 - and I guess other similar conventional motorcycles - so the scooter offers no significant gains in the Top Trumps weight department. Likewise, the Tenere 700 is, I think, cheaper on the showroom floor.

It’s fun, I guess, in the Top Trumps, “Look at me on my scooter, roasting motorcycles” game. But, is that enough? Having seen the assorted bikes at the top of the passes and sitting outside shady market square cafes, I know they all arrive at the same place at roughly the same time.

A thorough review, just the same, and no doubt a fan base will grow as a consequence. If that’s for no other good reason than nobody had even thought of a scooter, before reading it, then that’s good enough.

PS Wait until the Chinese bring out an X Adv slaaaaayer, at a price point to sell your mum for……
