XChal rear axle - 26mm or 27mm??

I'm rather hands on and enjoy making things, rather than buying them :)

Fit KTM axle nuts front and rear...................job done

Part # 50310099000

I believe the Katoom ones are a straight swap threadwise
Gonna do it myself

The G650X manual says the wheel nuts are M20 x 1.25. (Page 109).

The Katoom nuts (ref 50310099000) are M20 x 1.5.

Different thread pitch, so don't see how it would work. Been told it won't work, but guess you'll have to try it to see.

But it looks like a Kawazaki ZZR1400 swingarm nut is M20 x 1.25. See this: http://www.tastynuts.com/Products/ZZR1400_Swingarm_Nut_Right_Side. But sod that for a game of soldiers as they are flogging titanium ones at £8.30 ea !!!

This guy seems to have done it with KTM nuts.:nenau

Go down to post # 2261 and then keep reading. Even shows some pics. If the pitch was out i'm sure he would have noticed ;)

Popped in the local KTM shop at lunch (Bracknell) to get a tube. Spoke with one of their mechanics. You won't necessarily notice the difference in threads straight away. The nut may well go on fine, but as the thread pitches are different you stand a good chance of stripping the threads. Plus if adversely or strongly loaded, the nut but could slip a thread or two and come loose.

And sods law says that the threads won't strip at home; it'll be in the middle of nowhere when its dark, raining, cold etc...

So good luck to those that have done it.

Proper job for me is M20 x 1.25 Nuts; likely the Kawasaki ones as correct thread pitch.

Good call WC......................I hadn't gone down the Katoom route yet, but was considering:blast

I will now change ruts:augie:blast and go down the Kwacker route

Can you post the relevant Kawasaki Part #, after doing your research

Not being an engineer I would have thought that a different pitch would mean you would struggle to fit the nuts at all ..........I stand corrected :eek :thumb

yes but for another 50pence you could have blue anodised ones...........pimp my ride :P

Glad you have seen the light JohnnyBoxer.

FWIW, I just spoke to a right Tw*t in the parts dept at Pegasus Kawasaki in Reading and they cant help me unless I have a chassis number of a ZZR1400. Fing kn*b lick*rs. :blast

Just rang Wemoto because they do Kwacker spares but they couldn't help. Spoke to DK Motorcycles in Stoke but their systems are down right now . They are going to call back with price and part no. when the systems are back up .

OK, done some googling and come up with a Kwasaki fiche. Looks like Kawasaki p/n 92210-0320 could be the one, but its only described as a "NUT,FLANGED,20MM". Havent been able to verify if it is actually an M20 x 1.25 pitch x 27mm spanner yet though... Metropolis @ Vauxhall couldnt verify it either but its £5.50 per nut.

Have a look for yourself:

just for interest in the states they do sell 26mm 3/8" sockets (found whilst looking at some other tools) 6usd is the best price i found and have asked if they will ship to the uk and how much

the us option is out for me, 6usd for the socket and 30usd for shipping, but i found that you can get a 3/8F to 1/2M socket convertor for 3ukpounds so that can go in my tool bag with a socket instead of a foot long 26mm spanner :D

I currently have a short handled, large opening adjustable in my tool kit which has worked for me more than once. I am thinking of swapping that for a 26 mm ring spanner though. I will probably cut the end off and weld it to a tyre lever, 2 tools in 1. I currently have 2 medium tyre levers cable tied to the subframe under the seat. I reckon I could get a spanner / lever on the other side if I am careful with the size.

If I find a source of decent quality spanners at a sensible price I might get a few more made up.

The zzr1400 nut referred to above appears to be 1.5mm pitch to me?

{09159-20013 the rear axle nut from a suzuki gladius SFV650 2009 model is M20 x 1.25 with a 27mm socket size apparently. However the part costs £16.33 so if you're made of money}THIS INFO IS WRONG NOW I'VE CHECKED SEE BELOW...

However this is by internet searching, so would need to be checked in real life :eek

OK I JUST CHECKED SOMETHING

The tastynuts site is unreliable. The 'cached' page by google shows nuts as being 1.25mm pitch. However, the 'LIVE' page shows them as 1.5mm pitch.

Clearly tastynuts has changed their information. I would presume the 1.25mm references to be incorrect, since all the jap manufacturers (as well as KTM) appear to be 1.5mm pitch.

So, no easy solution then. (I personally would not use a 1.5mm pitch nut on a 1.25mm pitched axle).

Perhaps it would be easier to swap out the axle for an alternative make...:augie

IIRC the motion pro t6 ally combi levers are rated higher than the torque settings for the axles but only just

Being stereotypical fro a moment I'm sure there are a few BMW riders who wouldn't mind paying for a solution................i'm not one of them :D

I did buy their Draper Expert socket for using in the garage but its gone up in price slightly on their since I bought it last year. They do have a good selection of 26mm spanners ,but not as cheap as the ebay one Timpo posted :thumb
