XChallenge Mods - Good and Bad?

I have one fitted on my bike and it does look good, but I also managed to break it recently. Not sure how it happened but it could have been either a decent sized rock was thrown up or it bottomed out going down a step. I will repair it with an aluminium plate so hoepfully it will bend next time rather than break.

But does it do it's job of deflecting the spray from the front wheel??

I thought your were asking about the rear mudguard thingy not the front mudguard thingy. Sorry for being a fecktard!!!

I don't have the front extension and wouldn't get one to be honest. It is a lot of money for something that 'might' work but looks likely to get damaged the first time you come off in the dirt.

Tyres ... for touring and hardpack cant fault the Mefo Super Explorers ... best I have ever used - Much better than TKCs on terms of grip, stability AND longevity!. For pure off road have been using Michelin Deserts ... pretty happy with them too. Wish I took mousse out here to Road of Bones tho.

Using Motul full double synthetic 300V oil, it rocks my engine !

Sprockets ... used 15t to Almaty and first chain change. Have use 14t since then. Will revert to 15T for the ride home. Original steel rear sprocket still serviceable.

Done 30,000km on the bike in the last 4 months, about 10,000km off road

I would rather be stuck in the office too, but someone has to do the dirty work..

I will say that this is this bike is the best set up for proper adventure touring that I have ever had in 15 years of this stuff. Its not perfect, but overall, I have very little to be unhappy about.

If I had a way to improve the way the bike is set up now I would:
- get some custom made soft bags ... the ortlieb ones I have and the andy strapz are too small. Need about 30 litres a side, then could do away with the back bag basically, and have all the weight low and fwd.
- I would swap the generator for a 400w one from an F650.
- I wouldnt mind a bash plate that can store the tools nice and low as well. Touratech were out of their stock when I left. If I can think of anything else I would add to the list, I will.
- Oh, I guess the steel subframe from an 09 X-Country would be better than the alloy for adventuring ... anyone know how much BMW sell those for?

It sounds really nice I also don't have to left the right leg so high over the bike. The only thing I may have to change is the screws which hold the two heat guards on are a bit short, I'll get some slightly longer screws.

The bike did run a bit rough on slowing down but after a few ks it settle down.

The pipe does not get nearly as hot as the original BMW can.

X-tank?

I have very similar mods to those listed. The TT black front mud guard works well and looks good. I also got the BMW blue low seat - big difference.

The X-tank is mentioned by many. Any pics pls? Where can you get them from? Are they easy to fit? Tried search... Thanks
