just put my money down on a shiney new black adventure with the usual bells and whistles. ABS, heated grips, engine bars and 30L tank. Black engine too.

Pick it up in a few weeks from Park Lane. I'm all chuffed.

I hope I get on with it as it cost me a kidney!

Apparently the black ones are faster because there's no matt finish on the paintwork to cause drag. ;)

Is there any hints or tricks that I should be aware of? I know shag-all about BMWs as I've always had jap bikes. I'm a bit worried about the centre stand procedure. Hopefully I won't drop it first time I try to put it on it. I'll save that for the second or third attempt.

Don't suppose anyone wants a Bandit 12? :)

Welcome to the mad house.;)

First, lock your money away........NOW! Or you will end up spending on extras from Touratech , Nippy Normans and many more that want to take your money. I know as they have all mine. :( :D

Also as you are jumping from a sraight four to a twin you will find you make freinds with the rev limiter more often than you will like as the GS is a much lower revving beast. But you will get used to it.
Just enjoy, don't worry about the center stand its a piece of cake to do.

I came from a ZRX1100 to the GS hoping it would slow me down, FAT CHANCE the GS coveres ground much better than the ZRX, Its more planted and lots more comfortable. Expect to do alot of miles.;)

Cheers :)

I've got an Africa Twin too, which has similarish power delivery characterisitics. I'm getting rid of the bandit partly because I find the motor a bit too smooth. I don't think IL4s are my thang.

I'll avoid clicking on that link for as long as I can....

buying new toys

You will, but you already have most things on it anyway.

Even if you drop it (you will a couple of times) the best advice is to put it down as gently as possible! :D

As for care, weekly wash, spray with Scottoiler F355 (from HG). Supposed to be really good...

keep an eye on the oil level, esepcially under 25K miles and enjoy.

Plus before you ask a question, use the search function. It is really good...

Finally, be kind, always acknowledge other GS riders and have fun! :)

Welcome and intimidation is your friend...
