Having fitted the conversion this week I rate it as one of the top three mods to the GS.
After nine years and four GS's, two 1150s and two 1200s, I had sort of got used to the fact that the lights were terrible on unlit roads. OK-ish with main beam on, but the moment oncoming traffic forced you on to dip everything vanished except a small pool of yellow light about 30 ft in front of the bike. Anything could be lurking beyond, from a dead fox to a missing manhole cover. Even on familiar roads it meant dropping down to 40-ish.
However the HiD lights produce a bright long-distance beam which properly adjusted does not disturb either oncoming traffic or stuff you come up behind. It makes a huge difference.
If you don't ride much at night, especially on unlit roads, you could easily get by without it. But if you do I fully recommend it.
I got mine from Les Wassell who needs no introduction here. It was a full kit, ready wired with the ballasts already bolted to his specialist bracket. It took this mechanical idiot just over an hour to fit with no problems.
(BTW I have no connection with Les other than as a customer)

After much searching and seeking:augie

non believing or understanding that BMW could possibly fit naff lights to their flagship:ymca

Even my home spotlights look yellow now!!!

got my kit from Les Wassall :bow and fitted it myself last Friday. Took a couple of hours. Mounted the ballast units on the GS oil grill I'd bought a while ago via a couple of drilled holes. All fits nice and works.............brill!!!:clap

Email Les for exact pricing but ball park figures to do both high and dipped beams is around £160 for the DIY fit and £240 for the all singing all dancing plug and play

mmmm

How much for the spots...I have the full and dipped Wassall'd already?

you seem to have been only partly Wassallfied
Les did the full Wassalization effect many moons ago
2 x 50w & 2 x 35w
For full and complete Wassalization just drop him a line :thumb2

I will do but going to hold off on the spots...still deeply impressed with the dipped and main at the mo. Maybe when I saved a few stash of pennies....right off to the NEC, see if I cannot find a bargain...

My GSA has been completely Wassl'd, including the aux's. Utterly brilliant (pun intended)!
Returning to Exmoor from the Bike Show this Monday (1st) I was leading Ian on his 900SS Duke down the M5 south of Gordano at a reasonable rate :D when the remains of a yellow fairing came into view strewn across the middle and outer lanes. Now, if Ian was leading (and being dazzled my me :blast) he would have hit it, given that his headlight is 1 candlepower. Prior to being Wassl'd I expect I would have too. The more I use them the brighter they get, so it seems. There was a fire at the Blue Boar in Chipping Camden as we came thro' which meant a detour via the B4430(?) in filthy conditions to Stowe, a little windy road that I did not know but was made nearly enjoyable by HID. Bloomin' marvelous contraptions. We ought to have a Wassl'd smiley!

pictures of fitting

Having ridden a couple of times now with my HIDs fitted I've already enjoyed the amusement of a sportscar driver with his hand over his rearview mirror cause my HIDs are so bright......duh, why not just tilt it instead:blast

I look forward to finding unlit roads now:D

The more I ride the more impressed I become:beerjug:

Looks like i'm gonna go for HID fogs!!??

Thought I'd put some pics on the site of how I mounted the ballast units to my GS oil cooler grill that i've had fitted for a while. Only needs a couple of 4mm holes drilled and they can bolt right on. ;)

Just need to think about where to put the fog HID balasts if I get some.

Only issue is the HID labels blew off first ride??:(
