I've worn Arai for donkey's years, but attracted by the flip-up sun visor (my morning commute takes me straight into the sun so I tend to wear a dark visor in and then have to swap for the home run) I went to my local H-G fully intending to buy a C3.

But the build quality seemed inferior to Arai, a bit flimsy - which seemed to be backed up by a brief review in Bike in which part of the chinguard detached itself and was never seen again.

And although the helmet fitted around the crown of my head the cheekpads felt loose. The manager offered to get one with the next size up pads, but I would have had to order and pay the £440 first. Although they promise a full refund if not happy, I decided not to go through the hassle.

I know helmets and their fitting are subjective, but would welcome views from you Schuberth owners out there.

I've got the C2 and personally I'm very happy with it . I've heard some complaints about the proximity of the chin piece to the face but unless you've got the profile of Bruce Forsyth I don't see a problem and I certianly haven't got any problem with it.
When I first bought it there was a short period when the helmet had to 'mould' to my head, only being able to wear it for a couple of hours max at a time, but I did a 10 hour run (with a few stops) to the West of Scotland from Bristol a couple of years ago and it was comfortable all the way. Although it's adverised as quiet, I still wear Ultimate Ear plugs and its OK for any length of run.

I, for one, would be quite happy in buying another and the next one will probably be a C3.

Hi, bought a C3 used it for a week, it was terrible, don't know whether it was heavier, or the peripheral vision wasn't as good but I got a trapped nerve doing over shoulder safety checks. The sun visor is pretty pants too. Changed to a Tour X3 and use it with tinted goggles with the visor open, when it gets dark or poor visibility, it takes seconds to remove the goggles (while riding) and put the visor down, leave the goggles flapping about on my arm till its safe to stop and put them away.

Like you I've worn Arai's for a good few years but finally got fed up with paying to replace the 'breakaway' side pods whenever they snapped off, so I've recently switched to a Schuberth S1. Early days really 'cos I've only worn it for a few thousand miles. So far I'm hugely impressed with the quietness and comfort (although its a completely different fit to Arai's). The flip down sun visor is an excellent idea and I'm sure it'll be brill on holiday in warmer climes.

Build quality looks to be good to me.

The only negative from me is that the anti mist coating on the inside of the visor was a dead loss and made vision worse, not better, but it sort of flaked off and is no worse now than my Arai ever was.

Been using my C3 to day - excellent helmet. It's comfortable and so quiet. Vision is excellent and the sun visor works really well.

Chin flap thing has detached but easy to put back.

Interesting how we have different opinions of the same thing!

I've had an S1 for a few years now, moved from an Arai Quantum F.

Fantastic helmet, especially with a pinlock visor fitted:thumb

Don't like the flip front version though, butchered my ears when I tried it on.

I'd happily buy another one, that said I'd happily buy another Arai.

Missus has a Shoei and that looks like a decent lid.

Look at Helmet City for good deals, based near Biggin Hill in Surrey:thumb

I used to have a shoei, but also sold on the flip down visor bought a Schuberth. I probably won't buy another.

I find the veiw from the schuberth resistricted at the upper area, maybe beacuse the flip up visor has to be stowed here so they made it bigger? But its definately resistricted, more noticeable when riding a sports bike as I have to strain my head up further to see whats going on up ahead.

I HATE the double D rings to do the strap up. I never had a problem with the seat belt type fastener on the Shoei. With the Schubert my mates have got to where we were going by the time I've got thing done up.

Build quality is terrible, the vents on the schuberth drop off, I've never lost or broken anyhing on a Shoei. Citreon compared to a Merc. Also they say the schuberths are quiet......nope they aint.

The only good thing point with the Schubert is the visor doesn't mist up. The Shoei was terrible for it.

I've had:

BMW System III - heavy as heck. - But was only used around cities.
Schooie C2 - Noisy and cold.
Schooie S1 - Better, quiet, still using that stupid Uvex designed (IIRC) coating which flaked away.
Schooie S1 Pro - currently in use - 20K-ish. Pinlock - hurrah!.
Nolan N103 - #1 hated helmet.
Arai - something or other - full face thing.
AGV - full face thingy - loved having chrome and gold visors with it.
Uvex - Awful, awful thing. Was only testing it though, took it from the UK to Spain, via the Pyrenees, Eastern Spain and back.

The S1 Pro *is* my favourite helmet, even though I still have to tape up the front airduct to keep the cold air out in the Winter.

IMHO Arai are great for summer and that's about it, too noisy, too cold. The sidepods are an annoyance: when its pitch-black, after midnight in the middle of nowhere of Germany having to gaffa-tape your visor on one side of the helmet is more annoying than I care to express right now.

Having said that, Schuberths have a weakness in the sidepod area too. I found the screw that holds the pod against the helmet can fail over time (nearly 80K miles so I shouldn't worry too much!).

Like everything whats your top 5 requirements in a helmet?

You can choose either with Schuberth, I chose the seat belt type fixing on my S1.

I have a C2 and I'm reasonably pleased with it. Not as light as some - Tour X for example. I don't think it is as quiet as they say - still need ear plugs.

Word of warning the C2 won't take a pinlock. It is meant to have its own anti fog coating. Mine peeled off and had to be replaced. Schuberth replaced it free of charge when I complained, saying it was a manufactuering problem, though I don't recall any publicity from them on the problem. I suspect that is why the C3 has gone with the pinlock.

Would I have another ? Price aside yes well a C3 perhaps

I used to wear a BMW System 4 and it was a great helmet. When it came to time to change it I opted for a Schuberth C2, though it wasn't as easy to open as the System 4 the sun visor was a real plus :thumb2

But after repeated hassles with the visor leaking it went back for the final time and now I wear a Shoei XR-1000. Okay it's a non-flip but the quality is excellent, it's quite light and the pinlock means no misty visor syndrome.

Tempted by a Shoei Multi-tech or perhaps a Schuberth J1 for added beard room :augie

Complete bollocks :augie

You can get a C2 pinlock visor (or a C2 visor with pinlock fitted) from Germany. Brother-in-law has one on his C2.

Pinlcok for C2

v interesting. Only quoting what I had been told nice to know I can get one if need be. Not cheap though .To date however the replacement visor has been fine

If you like the idea of the built in sun visor, have you considered a System 6?

bmw-system-6.jpg

Quite light for flip up, a lot more room around the chin compared to the System 5, and comes fitted with a pinlock :thumb2

I moved to the C3 from an AGV full face in December after trying on loads of different manufacturers at the NEC. I found it to be much warmer/less windy with the large chin guard which is only practical on a flip-face. The connector for the chin-strap i have is a 'sawtooth' affair, which i find really easy to use - didn't like the seat-belt style.

A couple of times, i have had a 'pressure point' at the top-left of the back of my head which is not there the next time, so guess the padding moves a bit.

I find it quiet with the visor just open, and then get vent/visor terbulence noise when i close the visor which is acceptable. I think the noise on a 'machine' is quiet, but would always wear plugs on a long ride.

The pinlock visor works well - where all around could be condensated. Tinted visor is a god-send - no more multi-visor packing or sun blindness when the sun's low. I guess i'm used to the visability - i think it's acceptable.

Been out a few times in heavy rain and my heads dry - wish my feet were..!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'm going to get another Arai. Thing is, I never notice that I'm wearing my current one, even after monster 12-hour days in the saddle, which means that comfort is a given. I'm not sure the Schuberth or the BM lid could match that.

BTW, aren't the BM system helmets made by Schuberth?

i had a shoei before but found whenever i hid life savers it would move about - if it was any smaller i would have trouble getting it on.

i moved to a S1 pro and its great esp the integrated sun visor, it fits properly has the anti roll off thingy and if far quiter than the shoei - but still need ear plugs tho.

only gripe is that i seem to get a lot of little bugs going straight onto the helmet thru the top vents and then feel them walking about - but maybe because im a baldy i notice it more than others.... hever had it with the shoei though!

they're good....I've had 3 now (1 x C1 and 2 x C2). Tried a Shoei Multitec recently and went back to a C2. Shoei was lovely looking, great fit, plush inside and light to wear but was really noisy in comparison.
