Whilst away on the battlefields tour last week, my 660 was the only Garmin that would not locate Ypres, it wasn't even in the list. I could use map to locate Ypres but I could not even set as destination by tapping it. Even when stood in the town square it didn't recognise the place...and yes it has up to date maps and software.

Garmins....what a joke outfit.

Did you buy it off eBay Andrew :blast

All ours worked just fine :D

By happy chance I am sitting in Stockholm airport with a Garmin Nav V to hand, so let's see:

Where to

Address

Country.... Um... Er..... Belgium

Spell town.... Um.... Ypres

Select town (from the two on the list).... Ypres, West Flanders.... Yvoir, Namur.... Um... Yup, it must be that one...

Bingo! Knock me down with a feather. Blow me. Who'd have ever thought it possible.... There it is on a map.

Would you like to navigate there.... No thanks.

Job done.

Yup, it's incredibly shit. Absolute poo..... Bods' inability to deal with a simple device. It's never their fault, no sir. It's always bloody Garmin. Tell you what, bin the fecking thing and buy a map. Of course that probably won't navigate you 500 miles down the twisty 'Must do' routes that somebody was kind enough to create for you but it will, with pinpoint accuracy, show you Ypres, assuming of course that the map's of Belgium and that you can open it. :D :aidan

or you have not told it you are in Belgium and left it as UK/England, dont ask me me how i know. early years learning. Just as a matter of interest if you go to tools then settings and then to map and then map info at the bottom can you post what it says on that screen.

Type in LEPER the Flemish rather than French spelling of Ypres and you should get a hit , my 660 did the same thing last year , it was defaulting to the non French names (it's well trained )

or even Ieper...

Yes, when in Belgium, Alsace, Wales, Tirol etc you need to be aware that place names can be in 2 or more languages.

This is why a map is useful as it will often list all variations

I have witnesses to prove I tried Ypres with an I , L, E, Y anything I could think of, and yes it was showing Belgium on country of origin. And no Micky it came from authorised seller with lifetime maps, for the princely sum of £308.

Trying it now from home, I change country to Blegium, type in city...Y I then get 3 places to choose from, Yernee-Fraineux, Yves-Gomezee & Yvoir

no Ypres.

The same happened to me last week, I entered Ypres and leper, in the end I searched for my hotel. I have been at least four times in the last five years so didn't need it for directions, but I wanted the eta.

Next day it found Tielt no problem.

I do not have the answer but I can at least confirm it is an issue !

Seems the current (2017.1) & last version of the maps wants IEPER in Mapsource, Basecamp & on the Zumo itself.

please try this set country to belgium then touch search all and type in ypres. if that dont find anything search Ieper in cities

When you use Basecamp and search Ypres the following results appear:

You'll notice that the Flemish Leper results, which is correct, but perhaps not the result that you are wishing.

Very odd. I've just searched for Ypres & Ieper on my Nav V from the safety of my sofa in Pookey Hollow, Deepest, Darkest Lincolnshire. Both were found straight away without any need for me to specify a country at any point.

Yup, you can do it that way, too.

Home screen

Where to

Searching near.... A different town (assuming you are not searching for somewhere near where you are)

Enter town.... Y.... Lots of places in Wales pop up in the banner above the keyboard

Yp... Lots of places that look very exotically 'foreign' pop up

Ypr.... Ypres, Yprevile and Ypreville-Biville pop up

Ypres..... Just Ypres pops up

Truly poo at finding places, bleedin' Garmin.... Fade to close....

Okay I give in, I check as you did, no YPERS but I do get LEPERS and LEPERSIJ

Wapping you are obviously a GPS GOD ;-)
