Zumo 660 first impressions

660

I spoke to 4 BMW dealers yesterday and two had the 660 in stock, southport superbikes they are road testing one in Scotland at the mo and would not sell any until they had the all clear because some may have problems and want to make sure they are ok :blast

RGM (01772 603781) can supply them next day for £450

Thank goodness for them testing it I bet the R&D department at Garmin are waiting in eager anticipation for the road test from Southport, after all if its not a good report Garmin will have no other choice than to recall all the 660:rolleyes: what a load of B*****ks

Stock

Had my first few last week! already sold to dealers.

<strike>PM me for details</strike>

Edit: WAREGS - you'll need to be a Subscribed Member to send/receive PM - or, indeed, to advertise your wares (no pun intended) - GM

Got mine today from Bristol BMW - now spending 2 hours registering it and updating software !!

Is this why they were hanging onto them, I wish I had waited for the Scotish test report now :augie

It a real puzzle - connect garmin, download file, disconnect garmin, reconnect garmin, wait for unit to reboot, then instead of completing, it decides you need to start again, download software etc in a loop... Haven't found the key to breaking out of the loop yet.

Any clues?

Also no product key (8 digits) on the back of the city navigator DVD so cannot unlock the maps.

Garmin unlock codes are usually 25 digits/letters long. These will be found on a yellow piece of paper, unless zumo's are different to the street pilot versions.

The smaller number is usually the unit id number.

You don't really need that unlock code anymore. You can connect the unit in Mapsource (or RoadTrip) and 'upload' the unlock code.

No clue with the update - I managed to find the 8 digit number under the battery which Garmin recognised and that seemed to work fine.

Love the unit by the way, works well in the car and on the bike and the big screen is great - lane assist is a great feature

It's going in the bin

Similar issues...

Received my 660 yesterday. Immediate problem in that it didn't (doesn't) store changes to preferences, such as mph or kph etc. A call to Garmin informed me it only affects certain units and there's a software upgrade next week. :blast

Second problem, although registered online and showing a Product Key, it's only 7 characters long and unlocking via MapSource is expecting an 8 digit code. I tried a leading and trailling zero to no avail. This number is different to the 9 digit serial number under the battery, (mnentioned above???) and on the side of the box, by the way.

Interestingly, I downloaded the upgraded maps (8 hours later) and received an email with an 8 digit unlock code. However, I can't upgrade that, as the Updater keeps stopping and starting the GPS and finally says it's failed. I'm assuming it's because I haven't yet unlocked the v10 maps in MapSource, although they are unlocked on the Zumo.

What the fcuk is going on with this piece of shite?

Also, I need to go somewhere tomorrow - how the hell do you select a junction on a motorway as a waypoint or destination? i.e J23 of the M1???????

I am not a happy bunny

Yoy

Sorry, it seems to have changed in the Mapsource. However, if you select Help, then search for unlock, Mapsource will tell you how to retrieve your codes.

OK, cheers.:beerjug:

Just went to garmin.co.uk and updated to version 2.8 of the GPS software, and updated some of the voice files etc. Major improvements to the spoken directions.

It still won't unlock in MapSource, or let me upgrade to 2010 on the GPS.

I think it needs some delicate fine-tuning with a 4lb lump-hammer.

Another issue - how do you repeat the last voice instruction??? There is/was a separate button my my good 'ole 2610....:nenau
