You can get them Anywhere, sherlocks motobins etc, most RT's and RS's had them as standard and most throttle housing are predrilled to accept them :)

61181/83 ignore what they say as SOME 80 / 100 GS's had them fitted :augie

When I got my G/S the throttle had a "build in speed control" meaning that it stayed in position when I let go of the handle. I disassembled the throttle housing and tried to pull and release the cables by hand and they returned just fine. So the problem was in the throttle housing which had a lot of old and stiff grease inside. I removed the grease and lubed the moving parts with thin oil. I also took the plastic throttle tube off the handlebar and cleaned it inside with WD40. Put it all back together and now the throttle returns quickly when I let go of the handle :thumb2

I think my 89 R100GS needs some new cables. I see Motorworks list different cables for pre 1990 GSes with different cables for left and right side but Motobins show the same cable for all 100GS and also offer the featherlight ones. Anyone know which ones are best?

Did you get your cables sorted?

I'm looking at changing mine as both have slight kinks in them :(

Ones fitted have 090 and 091 for LH and RH respectively, but maxbmw has this for the PD bike, and 584 and 585 for my 88 R100GS  So are the PD ones a reversible upgrade?

And as for the choke cables :blast 327 31 242 139 on the RH but no markings on the left.

Asd far as I remember, BMW cables should NOT be oiled. My throttle was stiff though I only noticed it after riding someone else's bike. Fitted new cables and now lovely and smooth.:rob
