Why not just visit the site and select the forums you're interested in
In a forum of several thousand members there are about 12 of you neaderthals interested in pig iron - I can't see the owner swaying to the specific needs such a marginal group somehow

Go to your main entry screen and tick the little minus signs to the right of the forum sections and you will end up with

I don't think the above gets rid of all the unwanted posts when looking at whats new. On Advrider you can do just what you want and I did ask if we could have the same here a while ago, but apparently not.

You could create a bookmark that will list all new posts with the exception of forums that you specify.
e.g. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/search.php?&do=getnew&exclude=39,58 will list all new posts with the exception of the Joke Corner and Caption Competion.
Just add the identifiers of the forums you don't want to see onto the end.

OR !! do what I do and have the Airhead section as the page you open on>>
Bring up airhead page, click add to faves or home page it and voila when you click it all you get is the elite section, then if you need to read any of the other shite just go to new posts and select last day or since last visit from drop down menu

As soon as I open Firefox, up comes that page
