Chain recall thread

Greg, I'm not biting on that one but I did laugh to myself whilst stood on the side of the motorway when I looked up chain in my French dictionary to reveal that it was chaine. Harry

Try a German dictionary!!

Oh no, that's 'kette'.

The recall for our F650 arrived on Friday. Three weeks ago I fitted a new chain and sprockets to make sure we were OK for a holiday to France, (we had 15500 miles from the original chain set) I explained the problem to our local dealer who was very helpful, He said a recall will stay on the records until it is completed and signed off, we can therefore go back when our new chain is on its way out and ask for the new chain set to be fitted, there is no time limit or cut off date.
I do hope they are telling the truth, but I would prefer the components to be sitting on my shelf ready.

Just picked up our '08 F650GS from the local BMW dealer following the completion of a few other warranty jobs. Chain not changed as not on the recall list.

It seems from reading this thread that it`s very hit and miss as to what is going on:confused:I was in Vines to get a small job done when i asked about my chain and was told yep they would do that as well.I didn`t receive a recall notice.

A BIG thanks to the guys who pushed this through :beerjug:
Yes, thanks to you guys.

I collected my 800 yesterday complete with recall replacement spoks and chain. It rides/feels exactly the same as before but it is damn reassuring to know their is a stronger chain on board. :thumb2

Booked my 09 650 in for its 12 month service yesterday (130 notes they quoted) They called me back to say it was on the recall list for sprocket/chain so doing that as well, i never recieved anything about it either and have owned it from new since April 09.

mine is an July 08 f650 with a cz chain checked with dealer north of liverpool who initially booked it in then said they would check ,result not on list , suggested I contact BMW cust serv. Did this and confirmed not on the list so now it wears a DID HD chain fitted last week. Can confirm with post above bike rides shifts and feels exactly the same.
Have to say I asked to see ( and feel) old chain at change felt fine no o ring damage and side plates fine.
Silly question but it seems the F800 are failing more , is it a combination of extra 18 ish bhp plus some more travel?http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/250503/ne_nau.gif

My recall came in on wednesday, just about to replace chain and sproket but southport superbikes called me and it's booked in, in three weeks time. 5100 miles F650GS.

I must admit, I'm having no problems with it though.

Question: How good is the replacement????????????

Had my recall done 3 days ago, new sprockets and chain.
But I had placed an RK chain instead of the replacement chain which is ... CZ !

I am really surprised of the difference between them, no more noise on bumpy roads and a very very smooth ride !
90€ well spent, and got the replacement chain as reserve (I doubt that I will ever go back to it :augie )

chain

I have a march 09 GS 800 - havent heard any word from any dealers - is there a range of chassis numbers I can refer to before I call them up ??

Stuart

I just bought a used March 2009 GS 800 2800 miles, i spoke to the dealer about a recall on the chain etc & he told me to book it in for replacement chain & sprockets, dealer is hut BMW Belfast.

+1 June 09 with 12K on the clock. Being done at the same time as the 12K service.

The original chain fitted has never been a problem and never been adjusted, the bikes had a Scottoiler from new however. Guess I have been lucky?

Greggers I would contact BMW customer services and ask them why some dealers are giving out a free chain and sprockets to those who have already replaced theirs and why some are not. Also ask them what are the dealers like yours doing with the chain and sprockets that are being supplied to them for the recall??
